“De Zeekoe is a beautiful, relaxing, clean and welcome oasis.”
Reviewed 10 December 2009

After our short drive along a country road we stepped out into the beautiful grasslands of De Zeekoe. Our first impressions remained throughout our stay as this is an inviting, very pretty and restful location, brimming over with such warm and gracious hospitality from all the staff.

The bathrooms were sizable, stocked with interesting soaps, plush towels and fresh bathrobes. Fresh flowers were placed in both the bathroom and bedrooms along with clean, crisp bedding and a tastefully placed pillow arrangement that dominated the bed. Our bedroom had a porch which was furnished with comfortable chairs and pillows, and looked out to the elephant grasses beyond. Lovely view.

The meals were very tasty and generous in proportion to our appetites, as well as a diverse and interesting choice of foods.
The out door pool was clean and a welcoming pleasure.

Paula, the owner, was such a gracious and hospitable lady, welcoming guests during the mealtime, and making sure all was well. A very kind and unexpected, personal touch.

De Zeekoe was a highlight for us and we would highly recommend this little place of paradise to all.

Just returned from a trip travelling round South Africa and cannot stop talking about how wonderful De Zeekoe Guest Farm is. We had the best stay of our entire trip there. The rooms are superb, the views fantastic and cannot fault the service. We were going to venture into town to eat dinner, but the food, wine and service is so good, we stayed at De Zeekoe. The reception ladies cannot do enough to help you, they are knowledgeable about the area and offered all kinds of good advice. The whole staff is charming and so willing to make your stay memorable.

Thanks also to Divi for a great tour of the farm and for taking us to see the meerkats. Again, great knowledge and so friendly, we enjoyed every minute.

We will definitely be coming back - I just hope you don't get booked up as more people find out about this jewel.

This the most beautiful , tranquil place in the Karoo. The rooms are wonderful and food excellent but above all the staff and owners could not be kinder and more helpful. During our stay my husband was taken ill , thankfully nothing serous, but we were taken to the local hospital in the night and noone could have been kinder or more concerned.

It is a beautiful place and we cannot recommended it highly enough for those who would like to see the Karoo for itself and experience the best of South African hospitality.

We stayed at De Zeekoe for 3 nights in conjunction with a visit to the meerkats (a must!). On arrival we were greeted warmly and offered cold drinks after a hot drive - most welcome! We stayed in a lovely luxury king room - spoiled by masses of pillows, cozy robes and slippers and a wonderful view over the Outeniqua mountain range from our private veranda. Lovely breakfasts and 4-course dinner in the spacious dining room. The staff were friendly and courteous, special requests always met with a smile. Thank you Paula, Mersha and everyone for a memorable stay! We definitely recommend De Zeekoe to anyone staying in the Oudtshoorn area.

Stayed for 2 nights at De Zeekoe in one of their lakeside cabins. It's a few minutes drive from the main building, but it's a beautiful setting on the lake and it had 2 bedrooms, so great for us as a family of four. The cabin itself was quite rustic compared to some of our other accomodation, but very clean and comfortable. The staff were great and dinner and breakfast were a real pleasure. I thought the dinner was a little over-priced - very nice, but we had eaten in equally good places for less.
There were plenty of activities on offer, but we just took the farm tour. It was very good - the children liked being taken around on a tractor and it was more intimate than the larger ostrich farm tours. Having said that, we did also go to Safari Ostrich Farm which is just over the road from De Zeekoe and we really enjoyed that - we were lucky that there were only a handful of people there at the same time. We didn't visit the meerkats, but DeZeekoe offer a significant discount compared to booking direct with the meerkat man, so worth going through them.
Overall, I really enjoyed De Zeekoe and I would recommend it as a base for exploring Oudtshoorn.

We stayed at De Zeekoe Guest Farm for one night during our visit to South Africa. The farm itself is beautifully situated outside Oudtshoorn with stunning views everywhere you look - especially in the evening when the sun is setting. The room we stayed in was a good size and had everything you would need but did smell of smoke because of the fireplace which was slightly offputting. In itself the hotel is luxurious but does lack soul. All the elements are in place to make De Zeekoe a great hotel however a lack of charm means I didn't feel this was as good value for money as the other wonderful guest houses we stayed in during our trip.

We spent one night in one of the rustic cabins by the lake close to the lodge. We had a lovely evening, first enjoying the early evening on the balcony and then with a big fire in the fireplace. I woke up early to enjoy the peace and serenity of the balcony over the lake. Breakfast at the lodge was excellent. I warmly recommend this place to everyone I hear heading in that direction.
The only, only thing I could say is that once you have reached the cabins, you feel you are far from the rest of the world but in fact, the main road passes just across the lake and passing cars can be heard from the cabins. But, yes, I would return and next time, would spend 2 or 3 nights.
