“Different and Excellent”

Luxurious guest rooms at a farmhouse in the Little Karoo, 8km from Oudtshoorn. Excellent and varied food, good staff and the friendly, helpful and watchful proprietress, Paula.
OK pool on the banks of the Olifants River. You may have a tour of the Ostrich farm, but the dawn visit to wake up the meerkats is unmissable. Don't miss driving the Swartberg Pass either.

We really enjoyed the Zeekoe! De suite # 12 was beautiful, cool, private and in the Oudshoorn heat, the outside shower is a very nice. We enjoyed a lovely dinner. The family Potgieter and their management are great hosts and understand what hospitality means.
The meerkatten excursion was very nice and worth the value.

When we booked the De Zeekoe Guest Farm it was just to spend a night in Oudtshoorn to see the ostrich. What a mistake! We should have booked many days. It turned out to be a peak experience. The place was so comfortable, the food excellent, the owner, Paula, has organized a whole list of things to do while in Oudtshoorn. And it is on her husbands working farm so you can do a farm tour as well. She organized a meerkat excursion for us that was terrific, even at 5:30 am. I would highly recommend De Zeekoe Guest Farm for anyone traveling to Oudtshoorn, South Africa.

We accidentally stumbled into De Zeekoe Farm when we were disoriented and cold, after waiting outside of the town for an unreliable meerkat guide named Grant. We had no reservation and it was early in the morning. They served us a delicious breakfast (free of charge for us straggling walk ins) and made a room available for us right away.
Within 30 minutes we were recharged, sated, and had moved into a gorgeous room overlooking the Klein Karoo, a superior room at regular price since they had no regular rooms clean yet. Beautifully appointed room, comfortable bed, and we kept the balcony door wide open all night without being bothered by mosquitoes. Perfect sleeping temperature. The tranquility and the smells reminded me of a time when we had a similar farm lodging in the Pampas. You smell alfalfa and hear birds, see eagles soaring in the distance and the tall reed grass swaying in front of your door. We felt saved from the vagaries of independent travel that sometimes occur.

The staff was extremely kind and caring, the food was delicious. Warm potato pancakes with apple sauce for breakfast...along with ostrich eggs (if desired) and rusks and fruit and meats.
Cindy at the reception offered various suggestions on activities, and we ended up having much fun in Oudtschoorn. In the evening we took a drive on the back of a tractor through the farm. It was not just beautiful, it was highly informative and interesting to learn about the intricacies of running a huge farm in SA.

We booked a Meerkat Tour for the morning and received an alam clock so we would not oversleep. Met Devey, the Meerkat Man at the designated place and enjoyed a superb nature experience. Watched the sun rise in the Klein Karoo, the backdrop of the tall mountains providing a visual feast, and Devey's vast knowledge of anything nature really helped us understand this country. Soon enough the Kats got up and began to sun themselves. This was a highlight of our Africa trip. A pristine, non commercial experience at leisure. On return to the farm, later in the morning, they served yet another tasty breakfast. We wished we had more time to stay longer -- the farm felt so comfortable.
I cannot say enough about the excellent hospitality shown us at De Zeekoe Farm. Highly recommend them.

Stayed at de Zeekoe for the second time and everything was as wonderful as before. The welcome is great, he rooms are swanky and immaculate, the pool is gorgeous.
Meerkat tours are on offer as are farm visits and lots of other activities which we didn't take advantage of. We enjoy Oudtshoorn and Cango Caves and Wildlife park. This is a special destination for weary travellers! We will be back!

We stayed at De Zeekoe in October, 2009. Our stay there was very pleasant, made memorable by the accommodations, dinner & breakfast meal & a very interesting farm tour.
Oudtshoorn, the town, was charming despite worries that it would possibly be a dry, worn whistle-stop swimming in a sea of ostriches, since it's in a heralded "capital of ostriches." It's not. It's quite sweet, with few ostrich cliche-worn logos to be seen.
Our reception at the guest house was warm & welcoming. Although we had wanted to do a meerkat tour, that was not possible when we were there, due to the weather we were told. However, we arranged a farm tour with Devy for the next morning which was interesting & informative.
The hotel is delightful with several different room options to chose from. Our restaurant table afforded us a lovely view of the property & the food was delicious. We left wishing we had scheduled more than one night at this property.
Intending to visit the Cango Caves (there are several nice side trip options around Oudtshoorn) we stopped instead at the Cango Wildlife Park & never got to the caves. We found this attraction to be fascinating - clean & full of interesting animals, some of which we would not have seen if we'd not gone there. Our guide through the park was extremely knowledgeable. The best part - we got to pet cheetahs & white tigers!

My wife and I stayed at De Zeekoe while travelling through South Africa on our honeymoon. First impression where - very friendly staff. We were greeted with warmth and the staff made sure our stay was as comfortable as possible. We stayed near the lake in the Egyptian Goose Cabin, and it was stunning, Nice wood cabin with all basic amenities and a fantastic balcony overlooking the lake. The restuarant was excellent with a great menu. De Zeekoe is a bit out of the main town but if you have a car in a just a few minutes drive into town. There is an Ostrich farm very near by and there are many activities that reception can organise for you such as: Meerkat watching, horse riding etc etc. I would happily stay there again and recommend it to anybody travelling to Oudshoorn
