Chandelier Game Lodge & Ostrich Show Farm
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 5 November 2012

We stayed for three nights in a beautiful tent with the most spectacular outlook. On night one we took an evening game drive and had dinner in the bush. We were very well looked after and will be a memory of ours for years to come.
Nico was very knowledgeable on the flora and fauna and the whole experience felt very personal.
The ostrich tour was also a highlight. With so many of the farms being tourist traps it was really enjoyable to have such an informative and intimate tour and ride of the ostrich.
Thank you

Room Tip: Opt for a water view tent and be sure to go on the evening game drive.

The luxury tents are superb with very comfy beds. We were worried about the cold weather but needlessly. The beds had electric blankets and there were heaters/air-conditioning in the tents we had. Lots of hot water too. The food was delicious and served the first night at our tent accompanied by Ben, the dog, who munched his way through our leftovers. Breakfasts are sumptuous and particularly enjoyable sitting outside if the weather is sunny. We booked the sundowner dinner as it was our grandson's birthday. Absolutely awesome, well done to all the staff who made it so memorable. What a lot of work goes into these evenings. It was COLD but we had lots of fun and thank you so much for the birthday cake and surprise for Sean. Our stay included tickets to the Cango Caves, Crocodile Farm, Game Drives and Ostrich Riding. All of this was well organised for our arrival. We will definitely return, especially when it is warmer. Just so peaceful sitting outside the tent with only the birds for company. Chandelier has friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere, thank you all.

We visited last December. I thought that the tents were lovely. My main issue was the lack of service in reception. We had booked a deal that included a safari drive. When we arrived we were told that we could have it at 7am or lose it. (It should have been spelt out in the advertising) as this attitude didn't give a very good first impression. We were shown to our accomodation and I had booked two safari tents and the cabin (which was very dated) I asked if we could change this but was told that it was booked. Fair enough except in the 2 days that we were there they had many unused tents- just seemed like they couldn't bother. On the night of arrival, we decided we would have dinner in as we were tired after a long drive. We tried to book dinner in the restaurant to be told that our only choice was to have dinner served on a tray which as we were in a group we didn't want. I guess all of this could have been ignored if it wasn't for the surly attitude of the one reception staff member. ~We had our safari drive - not much to see but a very knowleadgeable owner on the second day- the poor ranger on the first day hadn't a clue but had been thrown in the deep end and on the second day the owner explained that he was taking us out so he could train the poor guy (who had tried very hard). On the whole, a lovely tent but sadly lacking in service. It could be so much more. Who rates these properties?

Room Tip: Only recommend the tents, not the cabins

as june can be cold we decided on a cabin but unfortunately have to say this felt like wendy house, i asked to be move to one of the luxury tents and was in 7th heaven, a 5star hotel could not look and feel better, although we lost power and had to be moved to another tent it was no problem, beautifully decorated, coffee, tea, bar fridge, our dinner , which was great, butternut soup, traditional ostrich kebab and pudding, was delivered to our tent, what more can you ask for?!

Room Tip: rather book the tents than the cabins

We had our wedding at Chandelier Game Loge and Ostrich Show Farm in 2010.

The venue is beautiful, the food was delicious.

For our wedding night we stayed in the honeymoon suite. It was breathtaking. Really beautiful.

I will definitely recommend this gem in the Little Karoo.

We stayed for two nights on a package that included a game drive, a Khoi San walk, private dinner and starligh dinner, admission into several local attractions and of course the tented accommodation. Whilst the game guides were extraordinary and excellent at what they do (we had a great drive with Nicor on two occasions and he is highly recommended), secant help but feel the staff are being left to do their best while the owners remain absent from the Enteprise.

Four star accommodation that cost zar4600 for two nights? It leaves us wondering who regulates the ratings. This may sound pedantic but for four stars I would wan the deck cleaned and not have muddy footprints over it. The table outside would have benefitted from a clean instead of the bird crap spattered thing that was on it. And just one piece of furniture (other than the comfy bed) that didn't hurt to sit on would have been great!

The food was great, but don't dress up meals to be something they aren't. Just call every meat dish kebabs with mixed veggies and boiled rice and we won't be surprised when it comes out as such.

We had a great time and loved this place but can't help feeling extremely upset at the huge price tag that we agreed to after seeing the website. For this price the nearby Bugfelsdrift Lodge where we enjoyed a coffee looked great with a full restaurant and bar overlooking the water.

Oh, and we always decline the offer for help with our luggage, but the offer is always nice....

At half the price this place would start being attractive, but be careful of the cost. It's just not there without some more tender loving care and attention to detail.

If you want to escape from the rat-race, is Chandelier Game Lodge definitely the place to be. We enjoyed every minute of our four night stay. The staff are very friendly and helpful - always willing to go the extra mile for you. The food is delicious; the accommodation is cozy and roomy - with all the necessities; and the air is so fresh! We slept like babies and awoke with the singing of birds. Chandelier is fit for a king!
