Very well appointed cottage, clean and well serviced. We stayed for two nights including two breakfasts each and a special one off evening meal ,all excellent. A good place to access the area
including the Cango Caves.A warm and friendly atmosphere that ensures a return visit.

Beautiful setting, wonderful hospitality and a breakfast that you would want every day.
Berluda offers very good service and the warm reception from Tannie Schoeman made one feel special. This is certainly wortth a visit - close to all that you will want to see and do.

thanks for a memorable stay.

On our three week's SA trip we only stayed in B&B's, also with a Berluda Farm Cottage. Compared with other places in the same price range and also taken into consideration the location (rural SA area), we think Berluda is overpriced. Although people and staff were very friendly and welcoming the place needs some refurbishment to make the price acceptable (e.g. moldy shower, bathroom equipment fell off during our stay, etc.).
Highlight, however, was the breakfast: delicious and lots of things homemade!

Our friends from Cape Town booked 2 rooms at this Bed and Breakfast since their 'usual' inn, De Opstal (owned by another member of the family), was full. We were all thrilled with their choice and the welcome from Rosie Schoeman and her family was warm with hugs for everyone.
A farm that has been in the family for 200 years, the Berluda is named after a type of apricot originally grown on the property. You will find these dried apricots packaged as a little 'turn down' treats. The rooms are lovely, warm and friendly and the grounds are beautiful. Each bathroom has a jacuzzi tub, but we had so much to see and do in the area, unfortunately we didn't get to try it.
We booked dinner the first night in the farmhouse great room where all the upholstered furniture was covered in durable, colourful ostrich skins. Dinner was home-cooked with Ostrich patties and 'Boboti' while breakfast offered scrambled ostrich eggs and beyond fresh fruit salads and juices.
We roamed the grounds to check out the self-contained cottages but we enjoyed staying in the main farmhouse. Our friends were so impressed with the Berluda that they booked the large separate farmhouse room with kitchen and fireplace for their son and his wife as a future celebratory weekend.
Unfortunately, due to the Ostrich cull (due to Bird Flu- Sept- Oct? 2011), we saw only one male and female Ostrich on the property. However, the Berluda is across the road from the Cango Ostrich Farm where you can feed, be 'hugged' by an ostrich and learn the history of the Ostrich in this special valley. Laura Schoeman provided a wonderful overview of Ostrich farming for us and all in all, we would stay there again in a minute!
Since it was spring, a gorgeous time in the valley, white roses and lavender were blooming everywhere and made our 2 night stay extra pleasant. We even had a key to our own 19th century style sitting room where we made tea on the afternoon of a wonderful sunny day. In this room, guests have their choice of wine available on the honour system with very reasonable prices listed and a wooden cupboard full of sparkling glasses.
Rosie and Laura are wonderful hosts and we hope to return to experience their great hospitality again some time.

I stayed in one of Berluda's cottages with my husband, parents and our toddler son. During our trip around the Karoo and Garden Route we stayed in a variety of different accommodations, but this was by far the favourite for all of us. The owners were super friendly and helpful, even presenting us with home made bread 2 days running! The cottage itself was very cosy and comfortable and spotlessly clean, just what a good farm stay should be. The view of the Swartberg mountains from our stoep was stunning. I was very sad to leave.
