We had a very warm welcome from Yvonne and Dan, spent our nights in a big, very clean room and had delicious breakfast (incredible croissants) at the poolside.
The place is a traditional and pittoresque vinery and fruitfarm. A place to come back, that's for sure!

During our roadtrip through South Africa we stayed at De Leeuwenhof for two nights. What a fantastic place! The people are very friendly, helpful, hospitable and warm. It's a beautiful, green and spacious estate with a very positive and relaxed atmosphere. Breakfast is great and the optional dinner is really worth staying at the estate in the evening. Don't forget to try their own wine… We regret that we couldn't stay longer, but we will definitely go back here. This place is a real recommendation!

We visited south africa to experience the winelands and the culture of the country. We stumbled apon De leeuwenhof in the heart of paarl and were greeted with open arms by daan and Yvonne. Our stay was made memorable by the family run business, who were a great help in planning our stay in the winelands with their vast local knowledge of the area and local wines. The amazing setting of this establishment with a great view of the drakenstein mountains makes for a majestic getaway for any couple.. I would like to thank the family for making my holiday in South Africa one that will never been forgotten...

We stayed 5 nights at De Leeuwenhof, just by luck we found this hotel and since the very first impression we knew that the stay would be a memorable one. Daan, Yvonne and all the staff are kind, friendly people which treat their guests as family. They have an absolutely great job in rebuilding the farm and setting up the guest house. Our room was was big and well equipped which made a long stay very comfortable. The food is excellent all the time whether it was the breakfast, guided farm tour followed by a bbq or regular dinner. The only regret was not being able to stay longer. We would recommend this place any time.
We definitely will go back to this place. Also we love the dogs there.

I feel I was misled with all the excellent reviews. While the room was OK it was not luxury as described, it was overpriced for the very basic standard (eg no decoration, painted, un-tiled, shower, no headboards) compared to other places we have stayed while in SA. Budget accommodation standard, no character! Evening meal was fine but expensive for a fixed menu, likewise the wine at R190 for unlabeled "house" wine. Breakfast: the continental offering was good but I cannot comment on the cooked food as we were never given the option.

False set expectations.
This review feels to us as unfair as we take great pride in our work and offerings.

The guest and his young wife booked for and stayed 1 night in " the old Horse Stable, a historic building holding 6 rooms. These specific rooms are, as set out by the pictures we show on the internet and booking page, meant for the traveler who seeks : a very reasonable priced luxury room, with en-suite bathroom ( we apologize no big bath, but a double shower ) with plenty off all soapies, shampoos, towels etc as needed, as well as air-conditioning, an extra long and wide double bed and satellite TV and 100% reception and uncapped internet, ample parking and a secured environment.. The rooms are decorated in the cape Dutch style, which is sober but adequate.
There is a terrace in front of the room overlooking the garden but unfortunately that was not seen as the guests car was parked right in front of his room.
We offer guests a set 3 course dinner by the pool and so asked for one gets told what " is for dinner" , furthermore we always explain our "wines" and let guest taste before and prices are clearly stated. We can create the setting, the guests must help make the atmosphere.

One can always discuss the tiling of a bathroom or the color of the napkins, but if the mood is set by whatever, thing normally go wrong or expectations are missed.
However we will learn from this experience and will even double our efforts to foresee if guests require further special attention.

My wife and 2 boys (ages 9 and 11) had an excellent stay at De Leeuwenhof Guesthouse. Daan and Yvonne were wonderful hosts and we really enjoyed meeting the other guests. The location is very convenient and yet super scenic. Daan was able to recommend some great wineries to visit and provide some insight into S. Africa that was very valuable. The family apartment was perfect for the 4 of us to stay and was very comfortable. It's not always easy to find a great hotel for 4 people so this was just right. We stayed 4 nights but could have used more time to see all the places nearby as well as taking the short drive into Capetown. Highly recommend staying here if possible.

Thank you very much for your review and we also enjoyed your stay.

We have 2 family units ( apartments ) with each two bedrooms and they are great for parents with children. On our estate/farm we have many friendly animals like cats, dogs, owls, squirrels and they also love children. The interaction between children and our animals puts a smile on every-bodies face. Not many guesthouses or hotels cater for children and although we have only a few units with 2 bedrooms, we can always add a bed in another unit to accommodate the young future clients and their parents.
