“A proper golf club”
Reviewed 29 March 2012

Paarl Golf Club is over 100 years old, and the layout across all 27 holes makes you want to go back and do it all again. We played there 3 times and there was never an issue on or of the course. My only little niggle was that if there is to be a compulsory 15 minute break after 9 holes, the hot food service needs to be a little quicker to keep play moving.

“Just visiting”
Reviewed 20 March 2012

Although we didn't play golf, the staff was very helpful in giving information for a future golf trip.

“Where's the marshal?”
Reviewed 1 December 2011

As a golf course, it's not too bad. Some clever holes, some clever bunkering and greens that are true meant that part was enjoyable.
That said, the condition of the tees and some areas off the fairway were quite scrubby and it's not what I would call "manicured". Also, lots of houses all over the place, so a bit claustrophobic. Quite expensive for what you got.
Worse was the fact that once we got 3 holes in (was paired up with a lovely German couple), I didn't see the marshal once. Not a problem on the back nine (our first), but from the 18th tee to the 9th green, we had to wait to play every drive and every shot into the green! All because the two ball in front of us didn't want to join up with the two ball in front of them, and had 3 opportunities to do so, one of which involved standing on the tee and watching them tee off!!! Someone should have been making them pair up.

“not impressed”
Reviewed 9 October 2011

Our first impession... overpriced; staff very unfriendly & unhelpful; & we hired a cart, whose battery went flat on the 12th! Having reported this & requesting another, we walked almost to the 18th before a replacement was brought to us! No apology. At halfway, we asked the starter/caddymaster??? where the halfway house was, seeing there were no signs & it looked as if it was under reconstruction; he pointed in some direction as if he knew less than we did. Some local women members slipped in front of us at halfway without asking us (general etiquette) or the men, also members there, who were complaining about just this, holding up play and further adding to our not so wonderful experience at Paarl golf course!
