Great place near Paarl to do a chocolate tasting!
The guys at DV Artisan will take you and explain to you all about chocolates and the whole tasting will cost you just R20!!!
Also at the same venue (Spice Route) you will be able to do a beer tasting, wine tasting and a biltong tasting. Right next to this is Fairview. Great place to have a cheese tasting!!!
The view is also spectacular!!!

We were lucky enough to visit this wonderful little place as part of a winelands tour and what an unexpected treat it was! This is a must do visit for any foodie interested in learning about true chocolate. This is not a visit for someone wishing to see fancy concoctions, pretty piping and sugar overload, it's a place to discover true, pure, unadulterated dark chocolate and begin to understand all the different notes one can taste in a square of the dark stuff, dependent only on the region it's beans originate from. For just a few rand for the tasting experience this will surely be a highlight of your visit to Cape Town not to mention an excellent way to punctuate all the wine tasting you'll be doing. Just one word of warning - after this experience it's unlikely that you'll ever want to eat a bar of Dairy Milk again!

If you are a chocoholic and a lover of dark chocolate - this is a not to be missed experience when you are in the Cape Winelands. The De Villiers family will personally host you to a tasting as well as a lesson on how artisan chocolate is made. In there case they are one of the few manufacturers in the world that make their chocolate directly from the cocoa bean to the bar. Here you can experience how the flavours of the chocolates change based on where the beans have been grown. The family have sourced from specific farms around the world - and the "terroir" of the bean is reflected in the taste. ie everything from the soil, to the climate will impact on the taste of the cocoa bean.

I am now a "groupie" of DV chocolates and visit regularly. I love the setting in the old Cape Dutch Manor, I love that they host the tastings themselves - a wonderful personal touch, I love all of their chocolates and I just can't seem to stop buying more and more and more of their products!

I would highly recommend a visit

This is a class act in every sense of the word.

Here you have husband and wife team who have turned their garage hobby into a passion that transcend a mere “chocolate shop” of which there are way more than enough in town.

This is a true journey into the world of chocolate, guided by two incredibly knowledgeable and passionate people. It is also a voyage of discovery for your taste buds because you will learn about taste sensations in chocolate that you would never have imagined in your wildest chocolate laced dreams. And don’t think this is only for the stuck up connoisseur – Oh no! Their personally presented tastings accommodate all levels of sophistication, ranging from the very sophisticated to the very banal.

I am a food and wine tour operator and DV Chocolates has become a regular experience that my guests from all over the world absolutely love.

As long as they keep conching out new chocolate and keeping each and every one of my guest happy, I will continue visiting, taking guests and recommending people to visit this amazing experience.
