My family and I visited this restaurant on Fri 6th September for lunch. Three adults.
It is set off the main road in Paarl. You drive through the entrance of the Pontac Manor Estate where you find you find beautiful trees, gardens, fountain and ample parking. A warm welcome at the door, and we were shown through to our table. There is a gentle, confident energy from the staff. I imagine their confidence comes from the knowledge that their Chef produces wonderful food, and their management is excellent.
We had choices of snails, calamari and garden salad to start. Then for mains Perfectly medium fillet, Rump with champagne sauce, and such tender, tasty spare ribs (which could have been eaten with your gums!!).The food was outstanding. The service was outstanding. Lovely ambiance in the restaurant not at all what I would have expected from a Cattle Baron, it is just a step up in class.
For special occasions - they have a Chef's table right in front of the open kitchen. It is a BIG beautiful table and the chef comes through to consult on the wine pairing and various choices of items on the menu.
I have not marked value as I did not pay, and we did not sit outside, but it looks like a cool place for summer, with a top grass terrace at the back with a deck for functions and sundowners.

Reviewed 20 August 2013

Been here a few times the past 6 months. Each visit was marked by exceptional quality of food - especially the steak which is their speciality! Great attention to detail, attentive service and a cosy vibe makes this a good place for fun outing with good food!

“Familiar & friendly”
Reviewed 9 August 2013 via mobile

True and familiar SA steakhouse experience. The meat is excellently grilled but served with the usual mass-produced sides, read mashed butternut & creamed spinach, which is of good quality. Although prices on high side ask for steak specials. Service is very good and you will not leave hungry! This is why the locals flock here. Also rember to BYO as there is no corkage charge...

“Well prepared, tasty steaks.”
Reviewed 24 July 2013 via mobile

Great steaks, friendly service, tasty vegetables but 'soggy' french fries.
The restaurant was quite full early (18:30) on a Monday evening. They have daily specials...burgers (without extra trimmings) for R29!
Good to have a decent steak house in Paarl.

“Very nice meat - rest is ok”
Reviewed 10 July 2013

We were out eating at this nicely looking Cattle Baron Grill and Bistro in July 2013. Service was a bit unexperienced but nice and correct. The food was quick and the kids liked the chicken very much. We also had Filet and Chateaubriand. Both meats very nicely aged, good taste - cooked to the point as ordered. Everything around the meat was a bit below this "meaty" standard - fries without real taste, vegetables not to write home about and salads ok but nothing special. Very strange Bearnaise-Sauce (was more of a garlic butter. chef should really check out https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B%C3%A9arnaise_sauce). Overall a very good place for meat - no fancy place to have a 5 star meal - but far above average concerning the meat. It seems to be very liked by all locals, almost all tables were fully booked.
