“Going downhill”

I had booked for Sante for the second time having enjoyed my stay in 2012.
Upon arrival , our group of 4 , with confirmed booking in hand , was told that there was no booking for us , apparently the computer system had crashed and lost all reservations , obviously no back ups?
After a wait we were offered alternative accomodation close by which was very nice but this obviously meant we were unable to make use of the facilites , the main reason we had booked Sante?
I emailed the hotel to find out how we could be compensated for our loss and was advised that we could have a room at a reduced price by Mr Bruce Walker , General Manager.
No phone call to apologise or make some worthy compensation , the man obviously has no people skills and he will continue to chase away business.

Dear Sir/Madam

We thank you for your honest review following your recent stay at Sante Hotel, Resort and Spa.We do apologise for any inconvenience you may have had from a result of the confusion created by your reservation. In September 2013 our network server was in fact hacked and all data encrypted, leading to the loss of major data, this has since been rectified .Our understanding is that an alternative was provided at our expense and a discount rate offered for a return visit. Sante now has a new General Manager in place and is growing from strength to strength - There have been major technology upgrades and infrastructure expenditure to ensure that the issue will not happen again.

We have visited the Sante Resort a few times int the last few years, but nothing could be worse than today's visit. Not sufficient staff, only one waitress and tables and floors very dirty. Only 3 umbrella's at the pool area, no service at the pool for drinks or to clean up the mess around the pool. Gardens in very poor condition. The salad for lunch was about a week old. And to top it all, after we left I got a phone call from the front desk to accuse us of not paying our account at the spa. It was paid for a month ago! Terrible, poor and shocking service! Sante will never see us again!

I have visited the Sante Resort fairly regularly over the past few years and can honestly say that the spa is truly a memorable experience!

BUT

Absolutely nothing has been done to improve services in 2013. I was in the restaurant and the service received was putrid. Only one untrained waiter and his first day was awful. Drinks arrived an hour later. The layout of the room was tardy. Dishes and napkins weren't properly cleaned. Tables had ants and were covered with spiderwebs. It's evident that the place is poorly managed, understaffed and NOT maintained at all.

The spa however seems to be the draw card. Staff in that section must be going above and beyond to keep up the pretence that nothing is wrong.

It's such a shame that such a beautiful, majestic venue has fallen to pieces. Who is brave enough to save it?

We visited the hotel in August and found the experience quite refreshing bordering on luxurious. The only issue was that they were under-staffed, possibly due to it being out of peak season. The staff attitude was however positive and accommodating. The cosy fireplace in the room which was lit for us created a romantic setting.
Recently we bought a one night stay from an online coupon business and decided to visit again. This time it was November, bordering on peak season and they were still very under-staffed. The biggest let down was the room which was bordering on un-acceptable. The issues were generally small, but the list of them shows that not much effort was put into the preparation of the room, if any at all.
1) Aircon was broken and a small fan was placed in the room next to it (cheap effect).
2)Bath plug was broken(only discovered later at night, plug was semi-attached to the bath so a quick replacement would not have worked).
3)No hangers in the cupboards(not a problem for a quick one night stay luckily)
4)No slippers in the bedroom when there were in August.
5)No complimentary bottle of water upon arrival in the room(not a real issue but there was previously)
6)Roman blind in room was broken.
7)One waiter/ barman running two bars on opposite sides of the hotel...
8)No bar fridge in room, sadly missed that one as bar staff at the hotel seemed stretched.
9)Shortage of towels at indoor spa pool which was resolved.
10)We assumed we would be afforded a gap at the spa as we went on a Wednesday, they were unfortunately full -our fault ofcourse. The assistant said the R150 spa voucher could be redeemed at a later date. The next day when we requested an extension on the voucher as offered the previous day we were told that it was not possible.
As a hotel/spa the defining factor is always service and despite staff 'meaning well' they just didnt quite nail it this time. As a husband and wife business team as well, we have won awards in a different sector of the service industry and quite honestly feel that some hands-on TLC needs to be put into managing this otherwise beautiful resort.
By hiring more staff, a better handyman and a management team that is caring enough to reply to constructive criticisim would be a great start. Two emails later to two different departments and we are yet to hear from them................Maybe visit the hotel in August or settle for a spa treatment and then stay at a nearby B&B or hotel ? This hotel has such potential...

Hotel and Spa with lots of potential. Service friendly and good. My only complaint was that there was no barfridge in the roons. We need to keep our water and coldrinks cold as well as the milk. But other than that. Nice place. Spa is great. Food is good. We will return.

The resort is set in an amazing space, the hotel should be world class with 360 views, big rooms well furnished. Unfortunately the hotel is poorly managed, the hotel is is need of some TLC. All the staff are very friendly but service is just poor, if somebody can sort out the management this could be a world class hotel. The SPA side is better run.

What an aaaawsome place!
Have visited many spa resorts, but not one like this !
Would highly recommend leaving kids with grandma as its an excellent getaway for couples. Recharge, recouperate, breath and enjoy yourself in a well manicured spa environment.
The staff are highly professional and friendly. I have explored getaways for couples to the east & west of the world, but OMG, right here on our doorstep in Cape Town.
This definitely is Cape Town`s best kept secret, a destination that will not be a secret for too long. The entire Sante has a relaxing atmosphere.
Didnt want to leave.
Do you perhaps need staff ? Will work for free !

Room Tip: Any room will be a good choice. You wont be disappointed.
