I was taken to lunch at Asara Wine Estate on Friday, 23 December.

The setting, the service, the food and the general ambience of the estate is superb. It's like eating in a picture postcard.

Highly recommended.

Room Tip: I only had lunch at the estate, but it was a memorable experience and one I'll repeat again.

For us staying here at my 27th birthday was like a dream. And I do not know where to begin describing it.

First of all the environment. The view of the wine gardens and the mountains is beautiful. Just this alone makes it already a great place to spend the night.

The room we stayed in had a great view from the balcony and it was very clean.
The shower and bath were really nice as well, spacious bath and a great walk in shower.

The bed was big and comfortable. And we slept great.

We also ate in Raphael's restaurant but for us it felt a bit uncomfortable since we are not used to dining in such atmosphere. The food however was very good.

The staff was helpful and professional, especially the reception staff.
Only a small minus at the Deli where the lady said she could not cut the cheese since it was already sealed. This was a bit disappointing since we would enjoy some good cheese with our wine.

Now imagine this all comes at the price of a 3 star hotel, and you understand why we were very excited about this stay.

Don't just think about booking this place, experience it, you will be amazed as well.

If we ever get the opportunity we will make the trip to Stellenbosch just for this place.

1. Poorly trained waitresses do no justice to a so-called 5 star establishment.
2. I had the Trio of Lamb. There was not a hint of the "karoo taste", very dry with a bitter tasting sauce. The spinach was also bitter.
3. My wife had the Springbok loin. Very dry, sauce tasted like Oxo cubes!
4. The menu pricing calls for a competent kitchen.

Too much emphasis on the "africa" theme is the downfall in my view

Great location close to stellenbosch, very large rooms with all needed facilities and equipment and amazing view. Food is good but not exceptional. Continental breakfast could also offer more variety of cheese, vegetables. Personal is friendly but lack some time initiative to anticipate customers expectations.

5 star excellence in a beautiful winery. The staff are professional and the food in the restaurant is simply wonderful. when you want to take a break from it all, you could do worse than heading here.

We had a beautiful relaxing stay.

P.S. I've marked excellent value based on the ultra low price of R1150 we paid via booking.com

Room Tip: The upstairs rooms seem to have more of a "private" feel. The balconies on the downstairs...

This hotel is beautifully designed and very chic. The rooms are very spacious and with great views as long as ou are not in the courtyard. Lovely restaurant with a good selection of food, cooked to perfection and with great service to match. Breakfast can be taken on the verandah overlooking the lake if the weather is good - the views are spectacular and the service is excellent.

Good location to do the wine routes and still only 30 minutes or so from the airport and about 45 minutes from the centre of Cape Town.

Highly recommended - make sure you do the wine tasting too. It's easy to miss the fact that Asara is on a wine estate and produces some delicious wines in house. But do take the opportuntiy to visit some of the local wineries too - there's a huge choice so do your homework on where you would like to go.
