We made our second visit to Eagle Encounters in February after we first visited in 2012. Seeing the birds of prey so close is fantastic. My husband and brother in law held the black eagle for R50, great experience. The Martial Eagle is frankly terrifying, her eyes follow you around. We ended up booking the Harris Hawk Walk for our last night in Cape Town. On this activity (R300 pp) they take you on a bush walk with a couple of harris hawks, the birds fly and hunt and land on your arm - and your head as we found out! This was a great activity and one of the highlights of our 5 week trip and I would definitely return every time we go back to Cape Town and highly recommend the Harris Hawk Walk. The owners and staff clearly are very passionate about their work and educating the public about the importance of birds of prey. After our visit we spent 3 weeks driving up to Namibia and really noticed the birds of prey along the way.

Great experience! Personal encounter with the owls there was great. Definitely worth the trip. And it is very affordable.

We stopped here in the afternoon after a wine tour through the area. We were able to come up close and personal with birds of prey. Some could be touched and you can go into an enclosure with owls and they will land on you and pose for pictures. This is also where the cheetah sanctuary is located, and you can go into the cheetah sanctuary and touch a cheetah. What a lovely creature to be up close to. I felt safe and grateful for the experience.

The demonstration is a must - it is very well presented and very educational. You get very close to the birds and learn to respect them. They also have a great re-release programme which deserves attention and support. Well done!

We spent a wonderful afternoon at the Eagle encounter at Spier Wine farm. The location is adjacent to the farm and is about 15 minutes drive from Stellenbosch. The birds are simply amazing and the staff are very informed on their subject matter (birds of prey). I would highly recommend this place for adults and especially children. You all will learn much about birds of South Africa. The admission price is around $5 per person and is a small amount to pay for the entertainment and knowledge you will leave with.....Highly recommend!
