We had a wonderful stay at the Middedorp Manor. With the friendly service and gorgeous rooms this place is a real gem situated close to the university and restaurants. Beautifully decorated with a tranquil garden. We enjoyed a lovely breakfast on the patio overlooking the swimming pool. As we often visit Stellenbosch we will definitely return to this delightful place.

Fantastically comfortable with great breakfast and many communal spaces to enjoy both outdoors and inside. Very friendly and relaxing place to stay conveniently located in Stellenbosch with off street parking.

as a treat for my 40th birthday i booked a weekend for my partner and myself. it is a beautiful guesthouse/boutique hotel and the minimalist modern decor is a favourite of mine.
i booked a suite online, but on arrival we were checked into a room. although lovely and comfortable it did not have a bath which was why i selected a suite in the first place. there were also some minor maintenance issues. nothing that had an impact on the quality of our stay, but given the price bracket it was noticable.
breakfast was delicious and plentiful, staff very friendly and location unbeatable.
after our weekend i e-mailed my niggles to the guesthouse and the owner's response was quick and positive and has secured middedorp manor a second chance.

We stayed at the beautiful Middedorp Manor for 6 nights in April 2014.
Positives:
* The veranda area and garden: we had a few breakfasts outside and truly enjoyed the serene garden setting;
* The location: the Manor is within easy walking distance to the center of town with its many shops and restaurants.
* The in-house library area.
Negatives:
* This is not very good value for money.
* The Manor has huge potential. However it is let down by a general lack of energy, enthusiasm and soul in the rest of its offering. There was a lack of attention to detail (toilet rolls and soap not replenished; insufficient towels; power failure in the evening being unattended; etc.)
* Breakfast was pretty average.
We will probably look to stay elsewhere when we visit the Stellenbosch area again.

Stayed 3 nights here, and it's very nice - as other reviewers have said it's a beautiful guesthouse and pretty close to the main shopping and restaurant area in Stellenbosch such Dorp and Church Streets. Would say a 5min walk along safe and quaint streets.

The interiors are lovely, very classy decoration with high quality furniture and attention to style, very representative of the website. I think we were in Room 4 which seemed slightly smaller than some of the others we were able to sneak a peek into.

Weather permitting, a good and varied (although a little small) breakfast is served on a lovely outdoor patio next to the pool - a very nice setting.

Staff were very helpful and gave us a good recommendation for a private wine tasting tour.

We did have some minor observations though which I felt shouldn't occur at such a high end guesthouse. They didn't totally spoil the stay, and we didn't raise them with the staff, was just a bit disappointing.....

Room Maintenance; Our room had a broken towel rail where just the brackets remained on the wall, not a biggie but with the quality of the rest of the guest house, and small number of rooms to maintain I found it surprising that this was the case. We had also mentioned that we had a problem with the room safe and could't re-open it (think it was our error in operation of it!). Told the front desk, but no-one ever came to fix it.

Access to public areas: The guest-house has a beautiful lounge, pool area and balcony however we were disappointed to find that these seemed to be locked up and inaccessible to guests later in the evening. We had returned from dinner a few times (not late, around 8:30pm) and had been looking forward to relaxing in the lounge before turning in, but the door was locked, as was the reception so we were unable to use this lovely facility. We tried the honour bar upstairs and found that there was a lack of glasses for the wine and again access to the balcony had been locked off - disappointing.

Transfers from the Airport: we had arranged a transfer as we had a late flight in, and had very good comms from the guesthouse about the details of the transfer company, costs and instructions on what to do on arrival. Although we did get the transfer ok, it wasn't the company were were told it would be, it was slightly more expensive than the rate we were advised and the driver had no idea of the arrival instructions (apparently we were to be given a key to the guesthouse by the driver). Luckily there was someone on duty at the guest house but we had to faff about for a bit to get in - again not what I was expecting after such comprehensive emails about this.

As said, its still a lovely guesthouse, but felt the small issues we found let it down a little.

Middedorp is very well located and has been beautifully restored. The rooms are stylish and very well appointed. Isolde and Maxwell were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was good but not to the standard we received elsewhere in other Cape guesthouses - for example we were disappointed that omelettes could not be prepared and there was limited choice of bread and pastries.

Room Tip: The front rooms are larger and bright.
