We spent two nights at the Wild Mushroom in April. We arrived late but the Manager was fantastic and couldn't be more helpful. We stayed in the poolside suite which was fantastic - the extra outside shower was also a nice touch!

Room tip: Ask for the pool side suite, nice quiet, secluded spot.

I treated my wife to a romantic weekend away and we were lucky enough to buy a Daddy's Deal voucher to stay at the Wild Mushroom Hotel. It is located on a secure, private estate and used to be the manor house for what was a mushroom farm. The views from the patio are amazing, as it looks onto the Stellenbosch mountains. There is a pool, which will be brilliant in the hot Summer months. The service from Joey and Mark was great, however, I would have liked to be shown how the TV/Dstv and aircon remotes worked as it took a while for me to get them going, which I did mention to Mark the next morning. Clearer printed instructions would be needed and some instruction for the aircon remote.

The value was exceptional, given that it included breakfast. The room was huge, with a separate toilet and huge en suite bathroom with his and hers basins as well as a big shower and bath. It is the newest room upstairs, on the other side of the landing opposite 3 other rooms, so we found it very quiet with no noise being heard from the coming and going of anyone. It faces onto the private estate but apart from one car driving past on the Sunday morning we slept really well, in fact it was the best sleep I have ever had on a one-night trip away from home. The pillows were perfect, not hard not soft and the bed was great, a king size extra length, which suits my 1.91m height. Great mattrass!

Breakfast was awesome, I have a hearty appetite and it started with juice, cold meats, cheese, then a warm muffin and a choice of 3 or 4 main dishes. We both had the farmhouse breakfast with your choice of eggs, delicious local boerewors sausage, bacon and toast with condiments. The coffee was great too.

We looked at the wine and beverage list and the prices are very reasonable for a 5-star establishment, so well done on not fleecing guests if they decide to take something from the honesty bar!

You would need a car or taxi to get to the hotel as it is about 10 minutes from the centre of Stellenbosch. It is situated near the Vredenheim Big Cat Sanctuary, also well worth a visit.

Room tip: The Purpureum room is upstairs out of the way and is very quiet. It doesn't have a great view, but the quality of sleep makes up for it.

Thank you for taking the time to review us on TripAdvisor. We appreciate the feedback and we take the suggestions and comments of our guests very seriously as it helps sharpen every aspect of what we do. We are so glad you enjoyed your breakfast and all the options and indeed I agree with you a big extra long bed is important in an establishment such as ours. We look forward to hosting you again.

From the welcoming committee; to the delicate chocolates placed on the pillows; our stay at the Wild Mushroom was one to remember. The guest house itself is furnished in such class that one feels as if they are royalty when staying there. The friendly and professional service from Mark and Joey made us all feel so welcome and important. My husband and I will most definitely frequent The Wild Mushroom at least once yearly going forward. What an outstanding establishment. Thank you to everybody for making our stay such a memorable one.

We spent a wonderful three days here. Can highly recommend - we will be back. Very friendly service and a safe location. About ten minutes drive from Stellenbosch town center, and close to many wine farms.
