Sizeable displays of several 20th Century South African artists including Irma Stern and Anton van Mouw. A short walk from the centre of Stellenbosch and well worth a visit.

I loved the sculptures by Anton van Wouw and the panels created for Johannesburg Station and many of the paintings too.

Small gallery with a variety of different styles. Some Irma Stern paintings and many others of her era. Well worth the visit as peaceful and not crowded.

A collection of paintings and sculpture by top South African artists, as well as a few works in other media. Very well displayed. Only three large halls, but the quality of the works is amazing. The collection of paintings by Irma Stern and the display of the stunning paintings of South African scenes by J.H. Pierneef, originally done for the Johannesburg station concourse, are of particular interest, but almost every work in this museum is worth seeing. All of the Pierneef paintings are excellent both as designs of colour, shape and light, but also as very evocative pictures of iconic places in southern Africa, where you can almost feel and smell the particular place in spite of the simplification and cubist tendency. This museum is a must for any art lover and particularly for all who have an interest in South African art.

Some nice art from South Africans. Only a small entry fee and well worth a visit only takes an hour or so.
