Almost hate to add to all the positive reviews here as this place could get too crowded. They are opening a restaurant soon. May get busy.

I am extremely picky and spend nearly half the year on the road. Cannot find fault here. Highlights include:

- Great location: central for walking, safe.
- Historical building: if you are a history buff like me you'll like that part.
- SUPERB breakfast. I could've spent hours each day just eating breakfast.
- BEST COFFEE I've had in years -- they use beans from a local roaster in a fine espresso machine
- Room - most comfy bed ever, lovely decor, cleaner than anyplace else I've been in S. Africa
- Staff = busy, service-oriented, always smiling.

Only drawback for me was I wish spa had been open more, would've used sauna, steam room, had more treatments.

TIPS:
- Had a good burger next door at Basic.
- Did not particularly enjoy Lebanese restaurant recommended around the corner.
- LOVED Thelema wines.

After deciding late to drive to Stellenboch decided to look at the reviews in Trip Advisor. Picked Coopmanhuijs Boutique Hotel and walked in, got the last room and was greater with very friendly staff.

The room was great and the bed was perfect. The hotel has amazing history and it's one of the older structures in town.

The breakfast was excellent and amazing service.

I only wish I could have spent more time here and enjoyed the town and the hotel

Highly recommend this hotel!!!

We recently stayed for 3 nights at the beginning of our 2 week tour of South Africa. After 28 hours of travel from the US, Coopmanhuijs was a wonderful find. Shortly after arrival we had massages at their spa which really helped us unwind. The staff goes out of their way to assist in any way possible from parking you car in their private garage to making suggestions and dinner reservations for you. Breakfast is terrific with a combination of a choice of fresh juices, fresh baked breads and pastries, an assortment of meats, cheeses, yogurt, fruits, etc. If that is not enough they are most happy to prepare eggs (any style), bacon or sausages. The coffe (filtered, latte, cappuccino, expresso) is excellent.
It is a small boutique hotel in European style, tastefully decorated, large bathroom and extremely comfortabale bed.

While I usually agree with the #1 rating on Trip Advisor, I'm not sure the Coopmanjuijs lives up to the hype. Having recently stayed in another Stellenbosch boutique hotel, I thought the value was better at the other property. While the location and staff at the Coomanhuijs are wonderful, the smaller rooms and frustratingly slow internet connectivity made me wish we could have gone back to our original hotel.

Perhaps my husband and I (in our 30's) are just interested in a different speed than this hotel offers.

Also, if driving in - be sure to get ready to jump out and pass off your car / keys to staff - street parking is difficult to come by and the (free) hotel parking is offsite (nearby).

Room Tip: Try not to get one at the top of the stairs!

Although South Africa has fibre optic data links between domestic and to international Internet exchanges, the "last mile" link to most end users is still via subterranean copper wire network, resulting in maximum downlink speeds of 4-10Mbps over ADSL.

Given the above reality, and the necessity of providing reliable Internet access to our guests, Coopmanhuijs recently conducted a major upgrade of our in-house Internet infrastructure (ADSL WiFi) - resulting in a much improved service.

I stayed here with my partner and friends. I don't think I've stayed at a friendlier place - the staff were excellent. The breakfasts were a highlight - pretty much anything you want they can do.

The rooms were large, well equipped, and the bathroom was great - fantastic shower.

In terms of location, the hotel is in the nice area of Stellenbosch, with lots of nice bars and restaurants in easy reach (try 'The Apprentice' round the corner).

We were sad to leave such a pleasant place, and when we return to Stellenbosch we will be returning to Coopmanhuijs!

Absolutely wonderful hotel in the heart of Stellenbosch and the Cape's wine country. Located on the city's main boutique shopping street.

Lots of local bars and restaurants nearby (note: they close here earlier than Cape Town--restaurants done by 10 pm, almost all bars in the area closed by 11-12pm.) Late night places available, however, around the university at the north end of town.

Rooms were spotless and roomy, nice bathrooms with showers and tubs. Large screen TV plus free wifi. Nice in-room fridge with great choices of local wines. Free valet parking.

Especially noteworthy: a wonderful, helpful, and friendly staff who went out of their way to make us feel welcome.

Besides the perfect hotel? How about the perfect breakfast: everything you can imagine and then some. First, all the basics like local breads, cheeses, and fruits. Added to that are several hotel specialties like salmon wrapped around avocados on a a bed of rocket lettuce or tasty quiches with local cheeses and local produce. Still hungry? Eggs cooked to order with ham or bacon. Espresso coffees and lattes.

This is a higher end hotel, more expensive than others in the area, but worth every single penny (or rand!). Look no further, this is where you want to be in Stellenbosch! We look forward to going back again and again.

Room Tip: All rooms are really nice--but go for the larger sized rooms which are magnificent.

I only rated this hotel as a 5 star because I couldn't put any more! I stayed for 3 nights on my own and it was like staying with friends. Ilzebet ( the manager) and the other staff were very friendly and professional. They had lots of recommendations but would also leave me alone to make my own. I didn't eat here in the evenings as I had been given recommendations but if the standard of the breakfast was anything to go by it would have been wonderful. The breakfast was full of anything you could imagine - different pastries, loads of fruits, cheeses and meats and different juices. Stellenbosch is a gorgeous little town with lots of hidden squares to get lost in and plenty to do - I will definately come back here!
