We were recently given a dinner voucher for R1000 by some friends for Indochine Restaurant at Delaire Graff Estate. My husband and I booked a reservation for 730pm on Saturday evening. When we arrived at the entrace to the estate, the guard was expecting us and told us where to park. The sun was setting and it couldn't have been a more beautiful evening. The location of Delaire Graff is second to none and completely breathtaking with views to Table Mountain on one side and to Franschhoek on the other. A driver in a golf cart was waiting for us in the parking lot to escort us to the restaurant just a short ride away. We were greeted by a very friendly manager who lead us to our table. Our dinner consisted of 5 courses (Amuse-Bouche compliments of the chef, starters, palate cleansers, main and dessert). Every mouthful was an experience in itself. It is advisable to order every course, as the portions are quite small, although we certainly did not leave feeling empty. They have an extensive wine menu with bottles starting at around R400 which we found a bit pricey, but as this is not a restaurant you'd be visiting every month, it's certainly worth every penny. I ordered a lamb curry as my main course and the meat was slightly tough, and the chef said he wasn't happy with it either, so they did not charge us for it.

*NB* For 1 couple eating 5 courses each and 1 (reasonably priced) bottle of wine you can be expected to pay no less than R1000.00 for the meal.

This is an exceptional restaurant on top of a low mountain pass. The South African contemporary art collection is well worth seeing in itself. The views on a clear day, or evening, breathtaking at sunset and during the day.
The staff is well trained and polite (usually)
The food outstanding. I eat in a lot of restaurants worldwide this one ranks with he best.
Do not expect a local SA ambience, one can get that anywhere in the Cape. The ambience is contemporary luxurious world standard, the gardens and setting the best the Cape has to offer.
The food in Indochine not cheap but then it is the best in Asian fusion cooking. Be prepared for a unique food experience complimented by local very good wines. I often eat in this place with friends, local and international and have never been dissappointed.

We ate at both the Delaire Graff restaurant and Indochine, one usually thinks of Asian style dining as less formal than European but in this case it is rather the reverse. Indochine serves seriously good far eastern food in a formal atmosphere..

Incredible and intense flavours dominate, in our case we chose the tasting menu which allowed us to experience a wide range of the a la carte dishes plus an 'off menu' desert.

Unless you have specific preferences then I would choose to drink the estates own wines which offer more than comparable quality to the other wines on offer and at a comparatively reasonable price, the Sauvignon Blancs on offer where particularly delicious.

Our personal favourite dishes were the tom yam goon soup (sharp -from the ponzu sauce, citrussy with prawn dumpling and grilled prawn) and the duck starter (rich meaty flavours with vietnamese herb and killer chilli).

This is definately an adult experience in a fabulous but formal setting.

the Delaire Graaf estate is certainly one of the most luxurious place in Africa. The tasting room is incredible and even if you feel more in the Napa Valley (say Rubicon/Coppola estate) than in South Africa, it's still amazing. we went to Indochine and we loved the food, and the wine, of course (try the Rose : incredibly good value). But the place feels so cold at night...no ambiance at all, no music...I assume they are serving lunch there and it must be great (they have a nice terrace), but avoid the dining experience...
