Owner description: Waterford Estate is situated in one of the world's most visually arresting pockets of paradise. Nestled in the picturesque Blaauwklippen Valley, in the world renowned Stellenbosch region, this 120 hectare property owned by Jeremy and Leigh Ord and managed by partner and Cellar master Kevin Arnold. The Estate boasts old citrus groves, rolling lawns, water features and fragrant lavender and rosemary beds. You'd be forgiven for thinking you were in the heart of Provence or the Spanish countryside, with your first glimpse of this enchanting realm. However, we are immensely proud of our uniquely South African location and the rich diversity of our indigenous flora and fauna. The winery was styled along the engaging terracotta design and was the result of winemaker Kevin Arnold and architect Alex Walker teaming up to create the home of Waterford Estate wines. The centre piece of the magnificent courtyard is the Waterford Estate fountain. This feature has been immortalized in the Waterford Estate label and represents a fundamental component of our philosophy. We believe in the old adage of 'less is more'. There is nothing pretentious or ostentatious about the estate, rather the visual impact is one of a seamless whole, which complements rather than detracts from the surrounding natural beauty. Welcome to our world, a world where the passing of time and the change in seasons only add rich layers of character and charm to the scene.

During a conference we visited this beautiful winery location. We had a wonderful experience tasting various wines, especially the chocolate & wine tasting. The tour around the cellars is a must. There were two stunning Rhodesian Ridgebacks which were a welcome addition to our visit.

I have been to Waterford Estate a number of times for the wine tasting experience and I have never left disappointed. Living in Cape Town, it is a very easy and worthwhile visit each time. As you enter the estate, you feel as though you have been transported to somewhere in Tuscany. From the duck filled lakes, the Clementine trees to the Ridgebacks greeting you at the entrance, just the arrival is even an experience. The service is excellent each time, the staff are very friendly and welcoming. I have also always found that they have a great understanding and are very knowledgeable about the wines. As for the wines themselves - I could happily spend all day in the beautiful courtyard sipping on the Chardonnay as well as the Kevin Arnold Shiraz. If you feel like treating yourself, then you need to try The Jem. Overall, a truly beautiful experience each and every time at Waterford Estate.

We drove for quite a while to get there from Cape Town (Camps Bay area) but the scenery was stunning and entering the Estate you really feel in awe of nature. The wine tasting experience was nice, the somalier was very sweet, but overall I personally did not find the wine that great. Suprisingly the dessert wine was my favourite and I don't normally like dessert wines. I must say, that others in our group liked the wine, and some bought bottles and had them shipped directly to Europe. The chocolate was very good however, and I highly recommend the chocolate with rose - simply divine. Overall, this was a worthwhile visit.

Our wine tasting here was fabulous. The service was excellent, the grounds are truly lovely and the wine was of wonderful quality. We tasted 3 white, 3 red and a dessert wine. We enjoyed several of the wines we tasted and purchased a few bottles, which we promptly drank before the end of our trip. I was pleasantly surprised and relieved to be able to buy several more bottles at the Johannesburg Duty Free on our way back home.

While visiting our family stationed in Pretoria, we toured this fabulous vineyard. A medium large estate, beautifully situated in the valley with borders of clementine trees and rosemary bushes leading to the main buildings. A shaded interior court with a fountain in the middle - great tasting space led by an experienced guide.

Wines tasted:
2013 Pecan Stream Chenin Blanc - crisp and spicy -$5
N/V Waterford Family Reserve Heatherleigh - very smooth - $12
2010 Kevin Arnold Shiraz - smooth with oak overtones - $18
2012 Waterford Estate Chardonnay - creamy - $15
2010 Waterford Estate Cabernet Sauvignon - strong - $35
2009 BW Bordeaux Style White Wine - limited production - $13

The star was the last wine tasted - reminiscent of a Chateau d'Yiqem - forcing the purchase of a bottle to be brought back to the States!!!

A lovely visit all in all.
