“Beautiful place!”
Reviewed 28 July 2011

This is a lovely place to stay. It is a big complex, but it is cosy. The rooms are big, very confortable and well decorated. They are in a small villa, with their own porsch. The fireplace is a plus. The hotel is in a vneyard, it has three restaurants, a spa, and large grounds where one can walk. It is surrounded by beautiful mountains. It is a hotel good for couples, but also for families. The staff is very friendly. We loved it all.

Room Tip: All very good.

Our family of fourbstayed there nights here in December. We had two beautiful interconnecting rooms, large and airy with lovely terraces overlooking the gardens. The hotel is great - helpful staff, beautiful setting. Our one minor niggle was the food in the hotel itself which was basic bordering on bland. The Mojo Afirican restaurant on site is fantastic and so is the wine bistro, but the hotel breakfasts and our one evening meal there weren't great. Overall a super place though.

My husband and I stayed at the Spier Hotel for 1 night whilst on our honeymoon. The Hotel has so much to offer and is well worth spending some time at.

On arrival we had to wait a little while for our room to be ready but we were not disappointed. Being out of season the Hotel was fairly quiet but this worked to out advantage as we had excellent service especially from the barman!

The Hotel has so much to offer and during our day at Spier we visited the Cheetah Park, Bird Sanctury, craft market, had a picnic, experience the wine tasting and had a swim in the hotel pool. If staying here you really should try all the facilities!

The Hotel has many restaurant and we decided to dine at Moyo. This was a fantastic experience and Moyo served amazing food. Our hotel room was large, clean and had a very comfy bed. If you stay here you won't be disappointed.

We visited the winelands at the end of our month trip to South Africa to relax before our huge flight home. Spier did not disappoint, originally we had planned to pop in for the cheetah sanctuary and tree house dining at Moya, but we were so wrapped up in the place we asked about vacancies in the hotel and then never left the premises for the next 48 hours. There was a free kids club allowing us to enjoy a wine tasting uninterrupted, the grounds are huge with loads of walking tracks to explore and the staff super friendly.

The hotel is fab, and the staff were amazing. If you go make sure you go to see the interactive bird show, not only will you be educated but you will be helping to contribute to the fantastic work they do at the bird sanctuary there. I would also advise to see the Cheetah's and take the tour to get full advantage.
You shouldn't miss the wine tasting either. We were only there one night but would stay again if I ever get back to that part of the world.

Stellenbosch was the final leg of our South African tour, and our experiences had run the gambit from safari tent lodging to staying with friends in Cape Town. After two weeks on the road, Spier was just what we needed. While a bit removed from the downtown area and many of the premier wineries, the more-rural setting affords the room to create beautiful grounds, great event spaces, and quiet lodging.

We were two families traveling from the States with three children. The Spier was a great experience for everyone, and at the same time I didn't feel our rambunctious children were imposing on the other guests.
