We had wonderful stay at this well-known venue. The property is large and deserves exploring! Lovely areas to sit in the shade on the river bank with a book or to watch the world go by!
Good hotel restaurant, small menu but very good food, well prepared and fresh ingredients. I thoroughly enjoyed the salad (as a luncheon main course). The mussels and fish dish also outstanding. The room was big and airy, housekeeping could have been better and I never understood why all our linen and towels were changed daily.... even though I did not ask for this to happen!! So much for the 'green' recommendations in the room!!

Room Tip: Rooms in the first block closest to the main road are to be avoided as they are very noisy. Rooms wi...

Would I stay here again... Probably not.

Spier is haunted by the shadow of what it used to be. The service here is not great and the rooms could do with an extra something to make I special. The food at Moyo was awful, it was like a cheap buffet from the 80's......

We stayed for two nights in the end, cut short by the endless mistakes made by reception. I am sure most will quite like this place as it really is a good family feel.

Spier is good value for money and has a good wine selection.

As a couple this didn't float our boat but for those that don't wish to make the same mistake as us...... There is a better place just up the road (Delaire.), which is where we move to.

Short but not so sweet!

Room Tip: Rooms on the ground are much better!!!

We enjoyed our second stay at Spier. The hotel was comfortable and had all we needed. We didn't have time to sit outside on the patio but we enjoyed the walks to the conference centre and the restaurant. The setting is beautiful and green in November.
The restaurant is a little pricey and the staff in the restaurant are not as friendly or attentive as those in the hotel. It took us a while to flag down waiters when we needed.

Special mention has to be made of the hotel reception, efficient and helpful, who organized our transport to and from the airport and stored our luggage on the last day.

The weather in Stellenbosch is unpredictable and we were unprepared for the extreme heat somedays and the chill on others, so take layers of clothing that can be removed if needed.

Lovely stay at Spier for a week. Lovely comfy beds. Superb breakfast! Felt that housekeeping was perhaps a bit below expectation but overall we had a great time. Picnic on the grounds was lovely! Salt water pool was a hit

The speir hotel is lovely and ideal location. We were greeted warmly by the management staff then a member of staff called Stanford took us out in a golf buggy to our car for our luggage then on to our room while pointing out the hotel complex. When we got to our room, they had set up twin beds, as it was our honeymoon, this was immediately called in and was changed. We went to enjoy a spot of lunch and on return they had apologies with a bottle of wine. the wine here is lovely. the wine tasting was fun and the staff are very interactive with you. We tried the segways which is a must as gives you great views of the vineyard. The rooms were clean and tidy.
The hotel is in a great location to enjoy the other vineyards in the area, and the hotel staff were happy to recommend some.
The only thing I would ask when booking is if they had any conferences going on, as we had one on our stay and was quite noisy at night.

Room Tip: Try and get a garden room as they are in a courtyard with your own balcony or outside area with a s...

This is a great place. Get away from all those typical hotels that are cold and impersonal!
Spier is a wine resort that serves its own wine, cooks food right there with farm fresh food.
The rooms are clean, tidy and comfortable. But dont waste too much time in your room...the place is beautiful. And try a wine cocktail there ....Amazing! Justin is the wine and hospitality manager and now a personal friend! He was amazing. We had such a great time we returned for one more dinner after we already left the hotel and were staying in another area. Give them a call !

We stayed at Spier for ten nights with my two young daughters. The rooms are everything you would expect in a four star hotel, the tv was perhaps a little small but if that's the worst of it, it shows few problems. The food is of a good standard, the location ideal for Cape Town and he surrounding areas and the complex itself is everything you would need. My only slight criticism would be the standard of housekeeping which was a bit haphazard one day would be fine the next the room would hardly have been touched. Overall if you are coming to this wonderful country, take a few days here.

Room Tip: We had 317 and it was great.
