“Nice break”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 January 2014

Rooms are huge and spotless. Bed is VERY comfortable. I liked that I could sit outside on the little verandah of the room and sip a glass of wine in the warm African sun

The swimming pool is great, but service around the pool is not always that attentive. The grounds are really fantastic and there is so much to explore. The kids loved it.

Breakfast is pretty good, but in busy times you may need to wait for an egg or the staff to bring the tea around. Its not a big deal when you are on holiday, but noticed it...

Sadly, Moyo has gone downhill. I was expecting much fun and entertainment, but I think its days are numbered.

I will definitely stay here again when in Stellenbosch

stellenbosch is one of the prettiest places i have visited. just a short drive out of cape town, we decided to spend the night here with the entire family and dine at the famous moyo restaurant.

the property of spier is wonderful... gives you that being at home feeling. the staff is very good and efficient. the wine from this farm which we tasted at the wine tour within the property was one of the highlight experiences of our trip. the rooms are very big and comfortable. just that they are too far apart. but that is okay. it is supposed to be reminiscent of a village resort.

i would recommend at least one night stay at this place for everyone travelling to cape town.

supposed room (423) they gave us was 'upgraded' but lacked a little more furniture - seemed empty and bland
upon arrival, room wasn't ready so was offered a bottle of wine
we booked 1 night romantic stay over for our 16th wedding anniversary and the room above ours was booked out with children running up and down..............
they however did make an effort to put 2 cupcakes with a 'happy anniversary' in our room after we'd left for dinner
food and service @ Moyo - shocking but was offered a bottle of wine as an apology
pathway to Moyo not lit and had to navigate back to hotel
We got engaged here 16 years ago but sad to say, we will not be back in a hurry!

We stayed over Xmas 2013,
Beautiful setting, clean well designed Hotel
Huge Rooms set around theior own Pool with very comfortable beds and lovely bathrooms.
Great Food in a number of restaurants, delightful, polite staff who cannot do enough for you.
Try the Segway Tour, a fantatstic experience you will never forget.
Absolutely no complaints whatsoever.

Room Tip: Any of the rooms are delightful, but insist on ground floor for access to your own patio and the poo...

On arrival, our booking is lost. No reasonable action for 30 minutes, while we stand in reception, dog tired from the long trip. Replacement room is given and we get relocated few hours later. Packing-unpacking, etc.

Next day, door card not working. Most likely during room replacements our key was coded just for one day, not for two. Happens. Replacing card, then electricity in room partially not working. Promising to fix, three hours later nothing has been done and nobody seems to be aware what has happened.

If it had been just one of the cases, I would have called it "happens". Summing it altogether - this has been by far the worst accommodation in the two-week trip to South-Africa.

We had wonderful stay at this well-known venue. The property is large and deserves exploring! Lovely areas to sit in the shade on the river bank with a book or to watch the world go by!
Good hotel restaurant, small menu but very good food, well prepared and fresh ingredients. I thoroughly enjoyed the salad (as a luncheon main course). The mussels and fish dish also outstanding. The room was big and airy, housekeeping could have been better and I never understood why all our linen and towels were changed daily.... even though I did not ask for this to happen!! So much for the 'green' recommendations in the room!!

Room Tip: Rooms in the first block closest to the main road are to be avoided as they are very noisy. Rooms wi...

Would I stay here again... Probably not.

Spier is haunted by the shadow of what it used to be. The service here is not great and the rooms could do with an extra something to make I special. The food at Moyo was awful, it was like a cheap buffet from the 80's......

We stayed for two nights in the end, cut short by the endless mistakes made by reception. I am sure most will quite like this place as it really is a good family feel.

Spier is good value for money and has a good wine selection.

As a couple this didn't float our boat but for those that don't wish to make the same mistake as us...... There is a better place just up the road (Delaire.), which is where we move to.

Short but not so sweet!

Room Tip: Rooms on the ground are much better!!!
