“What an amazing place!”
Reviewed 15 April 2013

We stayed 3 nights at Devon Valley at the end of our trip to South Africa. The views are absolutely stunning, room was comfortable and food very good. But the best part of this lovely hotel are the staff. Nothing was too much trouble for any of them. A special mention must go to Christopher on reception who certainly went the extra mile for us during our stay.

We will be back!!

My wife (azhootie on tripadvisor) and I stayed at this hotel in February and we were very impressed. When our daughter came for a visit from the US, we decided to go back and hoped that everything would still be the same. Our room this time was even more awesome than last time. It had a gas fireplace and a free standing tub which my wife took advantage of (so did our daughter in her own room). There were accordion-style doors between the bathroom and the main room which made the room seem much bigger.......and it was already HUGE! We were also impressed with the staff on our last visit and they didn't disappoint this time either. Kelvin at reception remembered us and we had a good chat whilst we were waiting for our welcome drink (one of many nice touches at this property). There was a welcome cheese platter in each of our rooms with a cold bottle of water. It was very much appreciated after our three-hour drive from the Garden Route area. When we checked out, there was an error with our bill because we were using points from our time share vs paying for the room but Bianca and Ondela fixed it almost immediately and had us on our way in no time. We are living in South Africa for the next 3+ years and I know we will stay here several more times before we leave.

Dear NicholasPovia and azhootie

Such a pity I could not get to see you! But delighted we remain your favourite hotel.

The room you stayed in was a Vineyard Luxury room, they are very cosy with the gas fire place. This was an upgrade as you are returning guests and we had the availability. Not always possible but we do try.

We look forward to welcoming you back to your other South African home

We canceled our reservations in Cape Town to stay longer and enjoy the views, good food, gracious staff and yes, wonderful South African wines. This is a great location to explore the wine country and, we found, an easy way to commute into Cape Town for the city experience too. We decided not to drive and the reservation staff was great in helping us make arrangements for our amazing driver, Carlo. He knows everyone and everything about the area!

Room Tip: Get a view of the vineyards

Stayed here for 2 nights as part of a tour of South Africa. Lovely room with huge bathroom and a terrace. Views delightful. Food in restaurant very good, and staff, as always in South Africa, charming. Wines excellent, as you would expect.

We stayed at Devon Valley for 4 nights with our 3 kids in two adjoining Vineyard rooms. It was a great base for exploring the Stellenbosch area and some fantastic vineyards (Dornier, Zorgvliet, Guardians Peak, Spier). The hotel has a quaint charm with beautiful, slightly wild gardens and fabulous views. The Vineyard luxury rooms were superb: spacious and well equipped. The restaurant is excellent - dinner was one of the best meals we had on our SA trip and the breakfasts were wonderful. We enjoyed a wonderful wine and whisky tasting evening with a knowledgeable barman accompanied by champions league football on a big screen. What more does a man need. Overall the service is very good and everyone extremely friendly. Only minor criticisms are the swimming pools (cold and murky / dirty), wifi (chargeable and 10 yr old approach to providing access) and millipedes in the rooms and bathrooms! Overall though this place is excellent and I would thoroughly recommend.

Dear Warwickfamily

Many thanks for your compliments on our Hotel.

We are continually trying to find better options for our Wifi, we are hidden in a valley and hence do struggle a little and have huge costs associated with this. If you join our iprefer programme which you can do from our website, you will receive free wifi.

Our farm is an organic wine farm, just before it rains the “millipedes” do venture out from the vineyards and towards the rooms. We do try keep a handle on this with regular sweeping. For future clients, if you do have any “millipedes” let us know and we will have these removed.

Kind regards

Stayed here for a couple of nights recently as we were attending a wedding in Stellenbosch. I had booked 2 Luxury Vineyard rooms and they were excellent with great views, large, clean and tidy. We did not eat in the hotel restaurant as we wanted to see some of Stellenbosch so went there for a meal. However, the breakfast was very good with a great choice. The staff (perhaps one let the side down) were also very good, polite and attentive. The surrounding gardens and pool are very nice and calming. There was a couple of issues which caused some concern but it would take too long to set them out here and they were not serious enough to spoil our stay. All in all it was a very pleasant short stay.

Room Tip: If you can afford get a Luxury Vineyard room. Well worth it.

Devon Valley was recommended to us as a base to spend a little time in the wine area round Stellenbosch. The welcome was excellent and the room was spacious with a verandah overlooking the valley. We dined in the restaurant on the first night and were surprised how good the dinner was. The second night we dined out in Stellenbosch.
The meal had been so good the first night that we ate again in the hotel and werenot disappointed. My fillet steak was excellent and the whole meal of such quality that we asked to see the Chef to pass on our appreciation
The breakfasts buffet was excellent and all in all we would strongly recommend the Devon Valley as a reasonably priced good quality base to enjoy the Stellenbosch area
