“Amazing, I wish every hotel was like this”
Reviewed 3 March 2014

Im a critcial reviewer, having stayed in hotels all over the world, Ive latley become a bigger critic.
So please take tha into account when reading this review, in fact read my last review in the Cape Town in on the Square first. Then you'll understand why reviewing this place as AWESOME if no average occurence.
This hotel ticked all the boxes, stunning, well kept, attention to detail, character, welcoming and well equipped. But the easy stand out strength is the staff, they are nothing short of amazing, every one of them.
And this is a big statement, but the the BEST STAFF I have ever experienced, in the world, in a hotel. Nothing short of amzing. Consistantly happy, energetic, welcoming, attentive, thoughtful and helpful staff - and it was every single one of them

The experience is still fresh in my brain, as I went for breakfast this morning at souless hotel in Johannesburg on the last leg of my SA trip. As I approached a group of 5 chatting restaraunt staff to ask to be seated ( i had politley milled about first) then reacted liked pigeons and scattered in every direction. However every time I entered the room in Weltevreden any of the staff present practically ran to me, complete with mandatory huge smile, to see what they could do for me. I wouldnt have been surprised if breakfast ended with a hug.

I will go back again, and I will look forward to it!
Words cannot begin to describe my affection for this hotel and its staff.

Ps - make sure you ask to see the Porsche collection!

Firstly, this is an excellent retreat to chill out along the wine route.
Jean Paul, you are a legend (Asante Ndugu), your breakfasts on the lawn with the peacocks just topped the break.
The venue is gorgeous with lovely gardens and exceptional rooms, a big thank you to all for their hard work.

We stayed at one of the loft rooms at Weltevreden Estate for 4 days in February 2014. The warm hospitality of the staff was "overwelming", specialy Paul the Butler and Mike the General Manager ,thanks for preparing a soup dish that was not even on your menu! Stunnings gardens and beautifull rooms with great artwork to view, this was our first visit but not our last to this beautifull estate.Thank you from Charmaine and Paul

We stayed at this place only 2 nights during the wine festival. The estate has only a few rooms, very private and home feeling. Fantastic old building with old furniture, wonderful surrounding with good park, incredible friendly staff, on our request a breakfast was served in the garden. The restoration in the estate is worth to visit as well. Great place! And very soon they will have outdoor swimming pool!

We stayed in the executive suite at Weltevreden Guest House for 4 days over the Christmas Holidays in 2013. What a welcome we got from Mike, Maryka and Anjo. We had the use of the whole bottom floor to ourselves as the suite only sleeps 2 and we were encouraged to use the kitchen and reception rooms as if it was our own home. Beautifully furnished with antiques and a massive collection of art (although it was not to my taste) this historical building has been sensitively restored.
Breakfasts are served in the Lekker Neh Restaurant a short walk over the grass from the front door. Fabulous menu - we tried almost every selection and all were faultless. Staff in the restaurant are discreet and yet attentive - perhaps that is a contradiction but it is so nice not to be constantly interrupted mid conversation with a "are you enjoying your meal" and yet we never felt that we were being neglected.

One of the biggest perks of staying at Weltevreden is that the restaurant is open in the evenings until 9pm which means you can enjoy a glass of wine with dinner without having to worry about driving anywhere. The dinner menu is also very good.

A magically homely atmosphere in a stunning tranquil garden setting. We went and had a look at the childrens area which is a great idea for young couples where the little ones can run around. I must mention that although the kiddies corner was always busy we were never disturbed by the noise. We felt as though we were leaving family behind when we left to go home!

Room Tip: Stairs leading to the more reasonably priced first floor rooms are steep - perhaps difficult for old...

We had a hard time finding it but it was worth the trouble. Once the secret is out it'll be difficult to get in. The staff is attentive, thie facilities are top grade. The gardens, rooms, restaurant, more than met our expectations.
