“A lovely place to spend a summer afternoon”
Reviewed 16 January 2012

We enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Cuvee restaurant at Simonsig, together with very appropriate wine pairings, and then a tasting in the garden. Lovely setting, good service, delicious food, and excellent wine.

“Good food, slightly mad restaurant”
Reviewed 3 December 2011

If you like great food in a slightly mad setting try the restaurant Cuvee at Simonsig. The food was good, but Stellenbosch is now the culinary capital of South Africa, and competition is tough.

The decoration of the restaurant is a bit mad. There's blank concrete wall in places (apparently demanded by the architect) that makes it look like they forgot to finish it. Bicycles and watering cans hang from the roof like a confused Irish pub, and the upstairs dining area is decorated like an 80's disco.

It's all a bit mental - which means it's probably not surprising that you can buy their premier wines cheaper in London than at the cellar door.

It's a lovely place, just a bit daft.

“Don't try shipping wine”
Reviewed 30 November 2011

Good wine tasting but to try and arrange a wine consolidation list to buy and ship wine overseas proved a nightmare!
