Nirwana Resort and Spa
Ranked #8 of 20 Hotels in Candidasa

This is a small resort (15 or so bungalows) a 20-minute walk out of Candidasa. Beautiful bungalows, spotlessly clean but a little bit too modern hotel-like for my taste and needs a bit more character. On the upside, great garden outlook and a 30mtr walk to the pool on the waterfront.

Good but not spectacular restaurant. Reasonable value spa services.

We stayed here after first having visited Ubud. It was much quieter here at Nirvana but also in Candi Dasa generally. My husband and I both got sick on our 2nd night after having started feeling a bit off before leaving Ubud. The ocean-view bungalow provided me with a great view from my sick bed! The bungalows are lovely and you just can't take your eyes off the view. The staff took a little longer to 'warm up' but once they did we found them to be really lovely. The restaurant food is nothing to rave about, but the service could not be faulted. We ended up eating here a bit more than planned as I was quite sick and couldn't go out...having the option to get room service was a definite plus.

The pool was a bit scary as it was very dark and you couldn't see the bottom. I think it was a combination of them using black materials and the fact that they were having trouble with their filter. While we were there it had to be fixed twice. The water seemed fine though (clear when you cupped it in your hand) and had a wonderful view to the ocean. Neither of us got the skin problems that another traveller mentioned so it can't have been too bad.

The location was a bit far away but there really isn't that much to do In Candi Dasa itself anyway so it was fine. The compendium states that transport to Candi Dasa is 35000rp but they took us for free. ?? Vincent's Restaurant was really good (we had Xmas dinner here) and they'll pick you up and drop you back free of charge. Our massage was half price and we found it to be really good. No aircon at the spa though so nice and sweaty!

We visited White Sands Beach and Blue Lagoon (Padang Bai) using the hotel driver who was lovely. Both beaches were nice, but White Sands is definitely the pick. The water is crystal clear. Next time we want to do more snorkelling/diving in this area but due to sickness did not make it this holiday. Be prepared to use your own driver/transport if you don't want to pay the high prices of the resort driver. No internet, problems with the phone (calling out) and no money change service. You pay for the view and the privacy of your own bungalow....it was worth it.

We have looked forward to stay at the new Nirwana after stop visit 4 years ago the old. The houses was placed as before, all new and with a wonderfull view on the ocean which we enjoyed a lot. But here we stop with positive thinking. Our 10 days stay was not positive. If we have not payed our stay on arrival we have left very fast. The pool was dirty and some days more than 35 celcius hot. Water so dirty that you could not see buttom. The concrete surrounding was dark and very hot. Deep was not marked (1,6 m at the deepest place). Restaurant was very poor, Australian steak was from Bali cow and also a very poor selection of wine. Juice served for breakfast was Sunquick and they even charge you RPS 14.500++ if you also have fruit. Even the place are new, number of visitors are very poor and restaurant is only visitted by guest during breakfast. Not a place to recommend to any. Finally I can tell that both me, my wife and a old friend have bacterial infections on body after using the pool.

We had planned to stay for a couple of nights up in the mountains, but because of ceaseless rain, we abandoned that plan and headed for Candidasa instead. This hotel was therefore a last-minute booking, but turned out to be a good choice. Candidasa itself is pretty quiet and, out of season, was a tad dull, but if you're after relaxation, then this is fine. The hotel itself is quite attractive: set out as bungalows around a pool near the seafront. Service is friendly, and the rooms are clean and well-appointed. When we were there the hotel was very quiet, and the dining room/bar a bit deserted in the evening, so we went into the town centre (as it is). The hotel is down an unlit, unmade road where you are besieged by barking dogs and random farm animals, so walking into town is probably not to be recommended, as we discovered. Used the spa for a massage while we were there, which wasn't hugely impressive. All in all, though, a nice place to stay.

Stayed 2 nights in a sea view room, this place has recently opened abd its really beautiful. Our room was in front of the pool overlooking the sea. The rooms are infact bungalows and are really big with a beautiful linen mosquito net over the bed, a flat screen TV, Tea and coffe making facilities and a beautiful bathroom with seperate bath and walk in shower. The restaurant is on the seafront and is really reasonably priced. My husband and I had a one and a half hour massage in the spa, the massage was excellent. The staff are really helpful and friendly. I can really recommend this hotel

We spent a nice 3 days at the Nirwana. We were off to a bad start when the hotel agreed to pick us up from the boat from lombok. It appears the driver (who is also the pool boy and gardener!) forgot, he finally arrived for us in a filthy rust bucket of a car and as we drove down the dirt track through the chickens I wondered what on earth I had booked. However, the hotel is lovely. Gorgeous views of the sea and very helpful staff, especially 'Made' on front desk. He was so apologetic about the car but the owner refuses to buy another. It also appears the owner hadn't paid the satellite bill as a lot of the channels that should have been working displayed a non payment message so nothing english speaking worked which the manager was working on!
I did like the staff here though and candi dasa is very nice. The staff at the hotel were very good at helping to arrange trips into town which was much appreciated as we didn't fancy eating dinner at the hotel. Breakfast was a bit basic which was fine for few days but more than that I'd have been going into town to use the bakery or a cafe instead.
I would stay here again for a few days but more than a few days I would want to move on. A great place for peace and quiet by the sea but a bit less stingyness from the owner would go a long way. I can recommend the massages they do!

We spent 3 days at Nirwana during our honeymoon. We were well received in the middle of the night by the security, who showed us the room and the following morning we had the "official welcome" by the manager. All the staff were above expectations - friendly, professional, helpful - from the manager to the maintenance. Rooms were clean and lovely, but the most amazing things were the garden and the view of the infinity pool and the sea. The area is very quiet: you need a car to go to town but the hotel or the restaurat can arrange one for free. The only disappointment was the restaurant, but I guess all hotel restaurants are usually mediocre and expensive compared to independent ones. All in all, a wonderful experience: we will certainly come back!
