Very tired old rooms and dangerously slippery external stairs when it rains, but this hotel is in an excellent location as far as being next to the ocean on one side and next to lots of restaurants on the other side. Nearly all of the rooms (except maybe the ground floor) seem to have great views of the ocean and the open-air restaurant area out the back is a fantastic vista for breakfast (nobody seemed to game to eat there for lunch or dinner, but it is a beautiful spot for a drink any time of day). It also has two large pools which also look-out at the adjacent ocean, although one of the pools was pretty filthy when we were there (grime around 30% of the walls which could have been easily cleaned but wasn't) - but we still swam in it anyway because the water seemed clean. One of these pools includes an area where toddlers can stand up (but need to be supervised). We only paid $US 75 per night for two rooms, with breakfast for 4 people, so despite the old rooms and one unclean pool walls, if you're not fussy about those things then this was brilliant value for such a great location.

Tip: there is great food available from a restaurant down a laneway next door (on the right).

If some peeling paint, cracked tiles and chipped furniture is going to spoil your holiday then this is not the hotel for you. On the other hand, if you want arguably the best location in Candidasa, a hotel full of charm and character, with comfortable rooms at a bargain price then don't overlook the Rishi.
We had two rooms in a single bungalow with a connecting door between them which was perfect for us. Including a living area with table and chairs the rooms were huge, There is also outside seating on a porch.
As the hotel is set back from the road, it was very quiet, apart from the sound of the waves - which I'm not going to complain about.
The room was kept clean enough day-to-day (provided you leave your key at reception as the staff don't have spares) but could do with a deep clean of the windows and other hard to reach surfaces if I was to be fussy. The bathroom was showing its age but was "hygienically" clean if not spotless (eg old cigarette burns). The beds were very comfortable and the sheets were clean, if not brand new, and changed on request.
There are two swimming pools and the sea views are simply stunning, especially at sunset
The staff were very friendly and helpful but over-stretched as part of the hotel is closed for refurbishment (no sign of any recent activity) and I think they may have cut back on staff numbers so it wasn't always that quick to be served - but so what, just look at the view a bit longer!
Breakfast was included in our room rate, with a choice of rice or noodles or various types of egg and toast, plus fresh fruit, juice and help-yourself coffee. It was plenty to set us up for the day.
In short, we loved the Rishi and the faded charm and echos of past glory just added to the experience with the feeling that we felt we were sharing something a bit special, but this may not be to everyone's taste. Come prepared and you'll love it too, but if it's not for you then go elsewhere.

I've been there on the last week of August, travelling alone for a week of divings ( i suggest You Bali Bubbles, really professional team).

The hotel is really old, half of it is closed since they are looking for investors.

The beautiful pictures You see will probably refere to 10 years ago.

Position is good, great seaview with a small shore just beneath the hotel. ( Candidasa is not a place where to look for long, white sand beaches.. I'll suggest You this place just for divings and relax)

Food ( breakfast), good if You are on diet, they will bring You one egg, two slice of toast with some jam and butter. The other choice is some local nasi goreng, not bad if You like it.

Staff nice, they will try to help You.

Room: really old. Cleaning was appopriate, but holes on sheets, towels, roof and walls coverd by mildew could give You the 'wrong impression'...

Just remember, this is a 3rd world country, so don't pretend too much. If You are looking for higher standards, try other hotels.

Cheers

We booked this hotel for 2 nights after reading favourable reviews online, and viewing the attractive photos.
We were bitterly disappointed: the 'suite' was old, musty smelling, with leaking taps & toilet in the stained and damaged bathroom. 2 bathtowels were provided: old, grey and threadbare. The 'suite' was advertised with bathroom toiletries, tv and minibar, none of which was present. No bottled water provided.
Tiled corridors and steps are slippery with leaking / dripping water.
We checked out after one sleepless night, with no refund for the 2nd night - we had booked online, paid $80 per night, 'reduced' from $135 per night!
To say something positive: the 2 pools are beautiful, but only 2 loungers available; the views are lovely.

I choose this hotel because of the good review, until I stay here and found not like the reviews said. I'm with 2 babies,2 elderly women, husband and sister. When we came here late at night they said the rooms are full and gave us the room at the up floor. I booked the superior room,3 roooms, they didn't gave us any towels, and tissue for the bath tub -you have to ask first before finally they get you what you've asked,no mineral water, no hot water ,no tv, so sad because I just asked for what they offered before I paid for the hotel. The helpers didnt gave us any smile, you have to ask first before they help you with the bags. And furthermore, my sister got hit by the electricity for touching the switch button of the lamp,,ckckckck,,so sad even I have thought in my head, is this what they did for "local people"... I hope my thought is wrong..so my suggest is, before you booked this hotel, you have to make sure what you paid is what you'll get...

Room Tip: The room 321,221 have no tv, no hot water..
