The pros: located 5-15 minutes drive from Ninoy Aquino International Airport (depending on traffic); relatively cheap; reasonably clean.
The cons: rooms are run down and poorly lit; wifi only works in public areas; in my room even the TV had a bad signal; there's no room service after 10pm (get a bottle of water before that time, or bring your own). The surrounding area is not very nice, to say the least. Airport transfer at 300 peso (5 EUR / 7 USD) is a rip-off: if you find a taxi driver who agrees to use the meter, the short drive shouldn't cost you more than 100 peso.
Overall, this can be an option only if you have a stopover that is too long to stay at the airport, but too short to do anything else (in my view anything between 6-8 hours). If you can't sleep due to jet-lag, you are doomed, because there's nothing else to do, apart from watching airplanes take off, if that's your thing. The hotel spa is not open all the day, and the only available services are 2 or 3 types of massage (something you can get in every hotel in Manila). Staff is helpful, but not as nice as elsewhere. I felt almost offended that before they let you check out, they verify if you have left the room in good conditions! This is a regular practice in the Philippines, but to me it makes sense only when they need to check whether you have consumed anything from the minibar, or if there is the risk of people stealing nice items. In my room the only items than I could possibly have removed were worn linen that should have been replaced long ago, and an old telephone.
Before booking at this hotel, think twice: there are better hotels still at a reasonable distance from the airport (within 20-40 minutes drive), and some of them aren't even much more expensive than Nichols (check Guijo suites in Makati). With just a few hundred pesos more, you can get a nicer room, free wifi, 24hours room service, minibar, TV, a safe to store your valuables while you go and eat something, etc.
If you don't have to go back to the airport within the next 12-18 hours, it doesn't make any sense to stay here. Just go somewhere nicer and you won't regret the additional time spent in the taxi.
Nichols is alright only if you really have a super short stopover and you want to sleep as much as you can, meaning that you arrive at the hotel - take a shower - go to sleep - wake up - get ready - leave.
