The pros: located 5-15 minutes drive from Ninoy Aquino International Airport (depending on traffic); relatively cheap; reasonably clean.

The cons: rooms are run down and poorly lit; wifi only works in public areas; in my room even the TV had a bad signal; there's no room service after 10pm (get a bottle of water before that time, or bring your own). The surrounding area is not very nice, to say the least. Airport transfer at 300 peso (5 EUR / 7 USD) is a rip-off: if you find a taxi driver who agrees to use the meter, the short drive shouldn't cost you more than 100 peso.

Overall, this can be an option only if you have a stopover that is too long to stay at the airport, but too short to do anything else (in my view anything between 6-8 hours). If you can't sleep due to jet-lag, you are doomed, because there's nothing else to do, apart from watching airplanes take off, if that's your thing. The hotel spa is not open all the day, and the only available services are 2 or 3 types of massage (something you can get in every hotel in Manila). Staff is helpful, but not as nice as elsewhere. I felt almost offended that before they let you check out, they verify if you have left the room in good conditions! This is a regular practice in the Philippines, but to me it makes sense only when they need to check whether you have consumed anything from the minibar, or if there is the risk of people stealing nice items. In my room the only items than I could possibly have removed were worn linen that should have been replaced long ago, and an old telephone.

Before booking at this hotel, think twice: there are better hotels still at a reasonable distance from the airport (within 20-40 minutes drive), and some of them aren't even much more expensive than Nichols (check Guijo suites in Makati). With just a few hundred pesos more, you can get a nicer room, free wifi, 24hours room service, minibar, TV, a safe to store your valuables while you go and eat something, etc.

If you don't have to go back to the airport within the next 12-18 hours, it doesn't make any sense to stay here. Just go somewhere nicer and you won't regret the additional time spent in the taxi.

Nichols is alright only if you really have a super short stopover and you want to sleep as much as you can, meaning that you arrive at the hotel - take a shower - go to sleep - wake up - get ready - leave.

Room Tip: Get a room at the back, those facing the street (and at a few hundred meters from the airport landing strip) might be very noisy.

Second time to stay @ Nichols, after a long trip from the UK and before heading off on an internal flight this is an ideal place to stay, journey time to the hotel is minutes from the airport which does cut out all that traffic. Rooms are well furnished, not lavish but comfortable, good bathroom ( beware the floor does become slippery when wet)
The highlight of this hotel for me is the roof top bar, with its outstanding view over Manila, its breezy up there, great place to have that first ice cold San Mig & a bite to eat. And the beauty for those heading back to one of the terminals for a forwarding flight, its just around the corner !

Room Tip: Most rooms are the same, comfortable, with windows that do open, so not always reliant on air con , smoking rooms are available

This hotel caters to people going to and from the airport in Manila. The first night I was there, there was construction going on in a neighboring lot and it lasted all night. After 30 hours from home to hotel, this first night was not a success. I was there for 2 nights so I asked for a different room for the second and the service was very good and within an hour I was in a new room. I slept much better, but the traffic noise bothered my fiancee (the construction didn't bother her, so we each had a good night and a bad.) So the first stay deserved only a 2 rating.

On the way back from Bohol, we stayed here again and this time all was tranquil and quiet, and I like it a lot more.

The service was very good, the food is good too. The rooms are clean but a bit basic (the furniture looks home made) Plus the main attraction is it is so close to the airport. And the shuttle works very well. I had my wake-up call, got ready went down and was off in about 15-20 minutes. And that is the reason I will be returning this fall when I go to Puerto Princessa, for the price, it is just too close to the airport.

I visited Manila as part of a tour of Asia watching aircraft. The Nichols is ideal. The room was basic but clean there food from the resturaunt was good value and served on the roof or on the ground floor and there was a roof top bar. Breakfast was served on the roof and again it was good. I would certainly stay here again.

We stayed here once, because of an early departure time from Terminal 4 at Aquino International Airport. This hotel is just a few minutes away from this terminal, and a few additional minutes away from the other terminals.

The hotel is right on the main street, and is easy to find. Taxi drivers don't necessarily know where it is, so you should be prepared to give them a street address. Another reviewer mentioned a noisy room on the street side - I believe it, there is a lot of traffic on that road. Our room was near the back of the hotel, on the top floor, and it was very quiet. The price was higher than nearby hotels, but the ratings were higher, and the place seemed (from the pictures) to be cleaner and better than nearby properties.

The air conditioner worked well. The shower had lots of water, but the hot water wasn't very hot. The hotel provided a basic soap and packet of shampoo. The room was large, clean, and had lots of desk space and cabinet space. The queen size bed was reasonably comfortable. Cable TV was available; the wifi didn't work on the top floor.

The hotel staff was friendly and helpful, and got us a taxi very early in the morning. The taxi driver claimed the meter wasn't working and overcharged us. I don't have any proof of collusion, it's a consideration if you stay here - you may want to just go out to the street and get your own taxi.
