One night stay before catching a morning flight at MNL. Not much around hotel as far as food and services. Nice staff and good service. Lobby and roof bar are nice. WIFI worked fine in the lobby. Rooms are spacious and clean but are rundown, need paint and have an "institutional" kind of vibe. Have to pay 30 Pesos for a washcloth. Old style TV but had many cable channels. Paid 350 Pesos (about $8 US) for the 5 of us to take their van to the airport. Good driver. Good location close to Treminals 1 & 2, but would probably only stay there no more than 1 night to catch a flight. Hotel has great potential, just needs some updating. Thought it was somewhat overpriced for the quality.

Room Tip: Request high floor room away from traffic noise in the front.

Been there at least thrice already. My second to the last stay was definitely not okay but I still decide to try them again and it seems I made a good choice. The hotel may not look different than my last stay but they are more welcoming even the receptionist. Their tocino breakfast meal is superb! Still one of the best I've tasted so far! Room service is affordable too.

If you're from Terminal 4, I recommend you take the airport taxi to the hotel. The taxi meter should not be more than a hundred pesos. You can then tell the receptionist that you would want to avail your complimentary airport pickup/drop-off on your way back to whichever airport terminal you're heading.

This hotel is ideally located minutes away from Ninoy Aquino International Airport. That's the only real "Plus" to staying here. Don't expect much in the way of amenities, but the service is bearable and the overall cleanliness is acceptable. Breakfast is tasty, but at the time I visited it was only available in the "coffee shop" in the lobby -- the rooftop cafe was under renovation. I was told quite a few times to refrain from venturing out after dark. The neighborhood is certainly not the safest, particularly after 10pm. I would only suggest staying the night here on a layover. If you are in Manila for more than a night, there are plenty of better value accomodations located in safer areas closer to downtown.

Room Tip: Ask for a room not facing the road. It is almost impossible to sleep in rooms in the front of the building, with jeepneys roaring along outside at all hours of the night!

The pros: located 5-15 minutes drive from Ninoy Aquino International Airport (depending on traffic); relatively cheap; reasonably clean.

The cons: rooms are run down and poorly lit; wifi only works in public areas; in my room even the TV had a bad signal; there's no room service after 10pm (get a bottle of water before that time, or bring your own). The surrounding area is not very nice, to say the least. Airport transfer at 300 peso (5 EUR / 7 USD) is a rip-off: if you find a taxi driver who agrees to use the meter, the short drive shouldn't cost you more than 100 peso.

Overall, this can be an option only if you have a stopover that is too long to stay at the airport, but too short to do anything else (in my view anything between 6-8 hours). If you can't sleep due to jet-lag, you are doomed, because there's nothing else to do, apart from watching airplanes take off, if that's your thing. The hotel spa is not open all the day, and the only available services are 2 or 3 types of massage (something you can get in every hotel in Manila). Staff is helpful, but not as nice as elsewhere. I felt almost offended that before they let you check out, they verify if you have left the room in good conditions! This is a regular practice in the Philippines, but to me it makes sense only when they need to check whether you have consumed anything from the minibar, or if there is the risk of people stealing nice items. In my room the only items than I could possibly have removed were worn linen that should have been replaced long ago, and an old telephone.

Before booking at this hotel, think twice: there are better hotels still at a reasonable distance from the airport (within 20-40 minutes drive), and some of them aren't even much more expensive than Nichols (check Guijo suites in Makati). With just a few hundred pesos more, you can get a nicer room, free wifi, 24hours room service, minibar, TV, a safe to store your valuables while you go and eat something, etc.

If you don't have to go back to the airport within the next 12-18 hours, it doesn't make any sense to stay here. Just go somewhere nicer and you won't regret the additional time spent in the taxi.

Nichols is alright only if you really have a super short stopover and you want to sleep as much as you can, meaning that you arrive at the hotel - take a shower - go to sleep - wake up - get ready - leave.

Room Tip: Get a room at the back, those facing the street (and at a few hundred meters from the airport landing strip) might be very noisy.

Second time to stay @ Nichols, after a long trip from the UK and before heading off on an internal flight this is an ideal place to stay, journey time to the hotel is minutes from the airport which does cut out all that traffic. Rooms are well furnished, not lavish but comfortable, good bathroom ( beware the floor does become slippery when wet)
The highlight of this hotel for me is the roof top bar, with its outstanding view over Manila, its breezy up there, great place to have that first ice cold San Mig & a bite to eat. And the beauty for those heading back to one of the terminals for a forwarding flight, its just around the corner !

Room Tip: Most rooms are the same, comfortable, with windows that do open, so not always reliant on air con , smoking rooms are available
