“A piece of history”
Reviewed 2 July 2014

Is a must see in Portugal, a piece of history well taken care of. The castle was build in 12 century on a hill near a river, the Templr's church is magnificently decorated. The 8 cloisters are impresive as well.

“An absolute must-see in Tomar”
Reviewed 1 July 2014

If you don't do anything else in Tomar, go and se the monastery/castle. You can reach the top by car, by foot, or by a "city train" leaving Tomar town at intervals. The monastery itself is full of history, and it certainly gives you a special feeling when you walk on the same worn steps that people have been walking on for hundreds of years. And then there is the view.

“Step into a history book”
Reviewed 29 June 2014

The very walls of Tomar's Castle breathe history, creating a surreal atmosphere where you truly feel the weight of the past on your shoulders.

The architecture spans many centuries, with several additions built into the initial foundations, creating a rich and diverse tapestry of Portugal's history.

This is one of Portugal's most beautiful castles.

“Convento de Cristo--a Must-see”
Reviewed 14 June 2014

In the 12th century the Knights Templar founded this monastery-fortress atop a high rock out-cropping over the central Portugal plains. Carefully restored in recent years, the place has a strong sense of its medieval and renaissance past. It contains a masterpiece of ecclesiastical art--the Charola, an octagonal tower originally the Knights' temple modeled on Jerusalem's Holy Sepulchre. Its high walls and Byzantine cupola are richly painted and gilded with 16th-century religious scenes of extremely good quality. The painting dates from a major addition to the Charola--a room for the a congregation and over it a large choir loft, which turned the former temple into the sanctuary of a Renaissance church. A very short ride from Fatima (40 minutes on a fine highway), this architectural wonder will repay all your efforts to visit it. Go.

“Wonderful view”
Reviewed 1 June 2014 via mobile

At least go there for the view.
Nice place also to breath a lovely fresh and pure air ;)
All the spot, castle and Convento de Cristo are needing some conservation, but after a hard winter we can apologize a bit
