“Plain but good value”
Reviewed 10 August 2013 via mobile

We were staying for the Festival do Zêzere Music Festival and although the hotel was a fair step from the Convento de Cristo, where most of the (magical) concerts took place, it is near both the bus and train stations, and the law courts (!)
Rooms are plain but clean and air conditioned, furniture adequate, and bathroom has a bidet and daily fresh towels. Tv is old but I found National Geographic in English (subtitled in Portuguese). Looked after by pleasant staff - but English is not a great strength!

Breakfast - local rolls, honey and fruit were good, and provision of cold water fountain. Horrible Nescafé machine, hot water for fruit and exotic teas (I like English Breakfast tea, made with boiling water). Cheese, denatured ham, flavoured yoghurts, jams, butter etc were all no more than adequate.
Good value and comfortable, but not luxurious.

First about advantages:
- good location (5 minutes by foot to the town centre, 15 minutes to Convent of Christ);
- free parking nearby;
- breakfast included (but it is really poor).
Disadvantages:
- poor breakfast (after having breakfast we went to the Delta cafe located next door and had second breakfast);
- old and tasteless furniture;
- there were ants in our room (we left a piece of cheese on the table and discovered an ants trail to it in the morning).
Resume: staying here could be reasonable only if you need a place just to spend one night and then leave.

You are in the city but away from all the downtown fuss. It's very easy (and free) to park near the hotel. The size of the twin bedded room was ok not to big neither that small. The towels were changed every day and the room cleaned also. The walls may be a bit thin but that wasn't a problem, noone was partying on the other side. The free breakfast was good, you have cakes, bread, croissants, you can also make your own cappucino or expresso. There's also free wifi everywhere, a vending machine near the reception, AC in the rooms, an elevator and town maps at the reception desk.

Just didn't like the bathrooms in the breakfast area, some people don't know how to close a door...

If I ever need a place to stay in Tomar I'll be back to Trovador!

Room Tip: I satyed in room 204 and enjoyed it

The rooms are clean and the breakfast is so so but I would not go back there. I am thinking that since it is close to the bus station that these are their cliental. There is no restaurant and breakfast is not good.

Trovador is a basic hotel in Tomar that is clean, provides free parking, breakfast, and a safe place to sleep.

The rooms are somewhat spartan, but the bed, furniture, linens, and bathroom are clean and a good value for the price.

A benefit to the Trovador is that it is across the street from the Train/Bus station, which means finding it is easy if you are driving, and if you're traveling by train, it is a short walk.

Breakfast was a standard european breakfast but definitely enough to fuel you for the the day before heading out to the sights!

Reception was basic and unremarkable.

This is an excellent hotel for travelers who spend their time outside sightseeing and use the hotel for a hot shower, good night sleep, and breakfast.

The only drawback was that the walls were a bit thin - we could hear several different guests taking showers/baths during the night and water flowing down pipes. This is something that can be easily remedied with earplugs, but travelers should keep it as a consideratino.

The hotel was conveniently located in Tomar. The staff were very helpful and recommended an excellent restaurant.
The rooms were clean and comfortable and were serviced every day.
We would stay there again, it was really good value for money.

The hotel is in a quiet location near to the bus stop (not a noise issue) and only a few '00 metres from the heart of the old part of Tomar where most of the restaurants are to be found. Crossing over the river to the new part you will find shops and a few more restaurants etc. Free parking is still possible either opposite the hotel.
Very little English spoken by the staff but not a problem if you learn a few words of Potuguese before you go.
Rooms are basic and clean but the beds have footboards so were too short for me (185cm) but would not be for most. Bathrooms dated and small but clean.
Breakfast the usual breads, cheese and ham with some good coffee. We paid 45 euros per night inc. breakfast but compared to our other stops this was only average value for money.
If you want something more upmarket then the Estalagem de Santa Iria is in a nice location and looked ok from the outside.

This was the first stop in a circuit from/to Lisbon airport to Tomar, Guarda, Coimbra, Figueira da Foz and Sao Martinho do Porto. Three nights were spent in each except Coimbra just 2. We had a hire car so went sightseeing but if you are just visiting Tomar then one or two nights there would be enough depending on time of arrival.
