“Best Honeymoon”
Reviewed 24 September 2013

Id like to start by saying dont listern to people that put this hotel down. It a fabulous hotel and for a new hotel its doing very well!
My partner and I went there on honeymoon on the 3rd September. When we arrived we were wowed and taken back by the size of thehotel. We had special treats waiting for us in our fantastic room. Champagne, flowers and cake. We where so overwelmed by the welcome.
We had a swim up room and it was spacious and and decorated to a good standard. The two people that made our holiday where our holiday rep Jo and Ann Marie from customer service. They organised special treats for us through out the holiday including a compliment ry breakfast in our room which could of fed 10 people to an intermate dinner in the oh so yummy Italian restaurant on site. All the restaurants on site where lovely the main buffet restaurant had a brilliant variety of food and all drinks where included as well as branded drinks which we took full advantage of. All the staff where friendly and couldnt do enough and the hotel was so clean they where out cleaning at all hours. I would gladly go back to this hotel and even thougj we didnt use it the childrens facilties looked fantastic and I would have no issues of putting my kids in there.
All in all it was a fantastic holiday and im so glad we book this hotel as we now have some great memories and we met some lovely people along the way

Have been in this hotel for 10 day's , was open for 3 month's …
Hugh hotel with lot's of possibilities !

1. The reception was Ok, you get a class of the so called “Champagne” but in fact it's a sparkling wine but overall OK.
2. Food: great if you don't go to the fish restaurant , the service was bad , very bad and the food was not OK for instance we got crab soup but it wasn't crab it was Surimi ! , in one word very very disappointing , luckily the main resto was still open … :-)
The other resto's Italian, Albanese, Chinese were great!
One important remark : The food in the main resto is not alway's warm !
3. Room : New rooms , but not made to last … not the best materials ...and one very important remark not very clean !
Finding hair on the floor from a previous client is … overall not so bad , but you expect a better cleaning service for a Palace (5*)
4. Beverages: great, all kinds of stuff ! But... very expensive if you would like to have a real champagne ( It starts at 150 euro .. for a bottle that cost in Belgium 17euro)
Bar's there are enough of bar's and people are very friendly and good service !
5. Important remark : The language skill's of the staff in one word … terrible , no French , some words of German and some words of English and I mean some words :-)

My overall impression :

Great hotel but not yet there some work in progress to become a real 5* Riu Palace

Room Tip: Go for a room with a sea view

We have just returned on the 18th from this hotel a party of 6 adults. Yes in some littel parts the hotel needs finishing off, however this did not spoil our holiday at all on arrival we were offered an upgrade to a suit which over looked the pool area and the beach we could not have asked for anything better, the food is fine there is something for everyone but we tried all the different restaurants and the food and service were fantastic and worth the 15 euros. The waiter were brill we got to know quite a few and they really made ever effort to keep us happy. The pool areas were brill especially the water slids kept the men entertained everyday the pool side entertainment was the usual water aerobic, games kids club, We enjoyed the entertainment on an evening each bars had different stuff going on and the pier party was good fun. The men booked 3 rounds of golf they play 2 different ones but really enjoyed the golf course attached to the hotel. We have looking to go back next year at the same time would highly recommend it
one issues there's not much to do outside the hotel but the town is only a short bus ride away at 1 euro per erson

Room Tip: Try ever restuarant well worth the money

Read the reviews before we got here and i can tell you we have stayed in many 5 star hotels ie Hilton Rixos ramada and many more around the world but the Riu got WOW factor
1) checked in was perfect smooth and helpful and what a load of rubbish that they dont speak Some English we had a dutch lad perfect english 10 minutes forms keys and off to the room of course we had champaign on arrival and a drink then off to our room 10.30pm walked to a suite ( upgrade thomson hotel) WOW again bags dropped off and down to cigar bar ( non smoking) miller bottle a few B52 baileys and the wife on bombay gin popped in night club only disappointment 6 people but not a worry
2) Daily entertainment is brill love Olga and the rest of the team and plenty to do
3) pools and beach are stunning and plenty of slides with a separate childrens area
4) night entertainment spot on
Staff are always very helpful and i can say they do favour the brits
Well a short review for now only third day here but the hotel deco is stunning and if you want to be fussy and look at every little thing then you bound to find something it will be the same in your house any hotel

after spending 2 weeks at this beautiful hotel from august 30th I can only read some of the adverse comments and wonder if we were staying in the same hotel. We like everyone else were following the progress of the hotel on the trip advisor ,and we also like everyone were believing what we were reading. All the comments about the garden rooms were really getting to us ,as this is what we had unwittingly booked by ticking a garden view room .On arrival we were upgraded to a suite in the garden annexe. It was absolutely beautiful the rubbish tip we had read about was nowhere to be seen, the unbearable noise we had read so much about , we could not hear. We stayed in room 6222 with views over the lovely gardens which were so peaceful. Our room was cleaned to a very high standard every day, the cleaning staff were lovely and always greeted us with a warm smile and a friendly good morning . We have never stayed in a hotel where the staff have been so friendly and helpful there was never a problem with the language yes staff did speak mainly Turkish , strange that as we were in TURKEY But there you go .We were thoroughly spoiled by all the staff for the whole two weeks ,At the livio restaurant every lunchtime our every need was catered for by our lovely waiter Sebahattin who by the end of our stay became a good friend .The same can be said of all the staff we encountered whether restaurant or bar staff guest relations and reception , friendly helpful and always with a smile .The food was fabulous always a great selection to choose from in the buffet and the alacarte restaurants that we used were beautiful. The beach and pier are absolutely stunning . The pool areas are great and the brilliant animation team worked non stop to help everyone have a great time On this holiday we did not have to move if we did not want to , drinks were brought to us , ice creams , teas , coffee , we were thoroughly spoiled the whole time .Thank you to all the fabulous staff that made this such a special holiday

Room Tip: if in a garden room try to get room 6222 it was great

Having read many negative points about this hotel before we went, i was a liitle worried knowing we would be staying in one of the garden rooms. We had two twin rooms in Parma block opposite the front of the hotel on the third floor, both rooms were lovely, really spacious, i have never slept so well, the beds were really comfortable and pillows. The mini bar was stocked daily, the lindt chocolates, pringles and haribo's were a real treat for my two daughters. If you keep your air con all night, you do not hear the crickets, which we did, because it was so hot.
The food in the restaurant was really good, especially the desserts. The cafe patisseire served some lovely sandwiches, cakes, chocolates and ice creams. The poolside snack bar served some really good pizza's and salads. Some of the bar staff would bring round drinks trolleys during the day which was really nice.
The entertainment during the day was really good, the evening enterainment was a little disappointing it only lasted 45 minutes, something the hotel needs to look at.
My daughter did get an ear infection while we was there, the hotel doctor saw her straight away and her prescription was delivered to the hotel within the hour.
I would recommend using a safe, as some people did have things stolen while we was there.
We would stay at this hotel again, it did have the wow factor.
We stayed 27th Aug to 3rd Sept

Firstly, I've read through some of the reviews on here already (some of the one and two star reviews), and I can honestly say I don't think they were even staying at the same hotel! This hotel isn't perfect, but it's certainly trying hard to get there. But wherever you go, moaners will moan. We saw people moaning just for the sake of it - like a waiter getting shouted at for pouring a drink in the buffet restaurant from the "incorrect" side. If you want Michelin service, go to a Michelin restaurant!!

ARRIVAL / CHECK IN
We had a late flight from England and arrived at the hotel after midnight. The shared car entrance which the Riu hotel next door uses was like a bomb site, with building work ongoing, but as we reached the hotel it looked very impressive and there were a few jealous looks from those still on the coach! There were no welcome drinks as some have described, but we were shown round to reception which is quite out of the way from the entrance - we wouldn't have found it if we weren't shown.

It took about 2 minutes to check in and the receptionist was very friendly. It was there that we learnt that we had been upgraded from a sea view room to a sea view suite. Our passports were scanned, room keys issued, and the porter took us up to the third floor to show us our room. Afterwards he duly waited at the door with his hand out which I found a bit disappointing. I was going to tip anyway, but it was the expectation that let him down!

THE ROOM
The room was very big, and at first glances was of the same standard as a 4 - 5 star suite in a UK hotel. Other people have commented on what the rooms are like so won't go in to too much detail. Large bathroom, small bathroom, living room, bedroom, double balcony.

After a couple of days we started to notice that the finishing wasn't fantastic, but only because I was looking for it. The aircon was stuck on full blast in the living room. This was fixed within 30 minutes of being reported. The pillow menu was very welcome addition - the pillows on the first night were quite large and unpleasant but we asked for goose feather pillows and they were in our room the next day.

House keeping will let themselves in to your room early in the morning so is worth leaving the do not disturb out. If you do, they will usually come back around lunchtime / early afternoon instead.

The cleaning is more of a tidy up; the bathroom is given the once over, and the bed made. I don't think in the two weeks we were there the floor was ever mopped once. Dust accumulations under the bed and sofa is already building up fast.

Mini bar had a great selection and is restocked daily by a separate person (just so you expect that second knock at the door). They missed us out one day, but a quick call to reception and it was stocked within the hour. If you like tea, take your own teabags for the room.

FOOD / RESTAURANTS
Buffet restaurant is of a good size although during our two weeks, there were a LOT of broken / smashed floor tiles that weren't replaced. Drinks are served at the table and are usually very quick and friendly. Food consisted of 4 rows of buffet, a fresh bread row in the middle, and a desert row also in the middle. One row was mostly salad and fish, another row of cold cuts, and the other two rows were the hot food which changed every evening. I never got bored of the food selection, other than the deserts which are obviously tailored more to the continental European palette - pretty appearance, bright colours, dull flavours.

We went to the Turkish, Chef's Table, and Lebanese A La Cartes during our stay. A La Cartes are booked between 10am - 4pm at Guest Relations for the following day which I quite liked as at previous hotels the A La Cartes have been fully booked a week before. The steak was very popular and you need to be queuing at guest relations at 10am to reserve a space. We didn't do this so ended up missing out on the steak. Turkish was quite good - kebabs etc. Chef's Table was 7 taster courses, mostly fish which I didn't like but was very well presented and my partner who does like fish enjoyed it. Lebanese was the winner for me. Starter of about 10 small dishes on your table, followed by soup, followed by warm appetiser, followed by main, and then desert. Great use of many spices, although not a single one was actually hot-spicy. Excellent service at the A La Cartes, particularly the €15 per head ones.

Patisserie bar was a bit of a let down. Stale sandwiches (and we noticed a fly or two on them), and the flavourless European-style cakes. Don't miss the ice cream down the far end of the bar though. Very good ice cream.

GROUNDS / FACILITIES
Very tidy grounds and facilities. You wouldn't think that the hotel had only been open 5 weeks. The pool is big, cool, and was never crowded. One half seemed to noisy and rowdy, the other half was quiet and relaxing. It did seem to get a bit dirty as the week went on, with more sand and little bits and bobs on the bottom of the pool. A child of a person who traveled on the same flight got an ear infection.

Beach and pier was very scenic. Always available loungers - I don't think I ever saw it more than half full. The beach is very pebbly at the waters edge, and about two steps in to the sea there is a steep, pebbly drop from ankle depth to waist depth - kids need supervising in the sea; I found this drop made it difficult to get back out again. The pier looks great and the bar of course means you can spend a whole day there. Plenty of ladders down in to the sea, plus a section at the very end for jumping in, plus a hose pipe to wash off again. As for hiring a corner of the pier for €300 per day, we opted to pass up the offer.

Watersports are expensive. At previous all inclusive hotels, non-motor sports were free, and motor-sports were extra. Here, everything is chargeable which led to a very quiet stretch of sea outside the Palazzo. We hired a sailing boat - €60 for the hour (without instructor). If we needed a staff member with us to show us what to do, it would have been €85 for the hour. Jet skis are €45 for 10 minutes and €65 for 15 minutes. I had a quick look down their list and the prices for canoes and windsurfing was as expensive. The watersports staff speak little English and seemed quite grumpy.

Personally, the spa seemed very much over-hyped. The indoor pool is in part of the spa and looks good. It was rarely used and the water is freezing cold. The six plunge pools are freezing, with only three of the six working (various buttons to turn on water falls and bubbles etc). The big snow dome which was in the artist drawing turned out to be a glorified ice machine, spitting out little bits of ice in to a bowl. Not sure exactly what to make of that! The steam room and 2 saunas were as expected. Massages and treatments are overpriced. The cheapest I saw was about €100. Again, we opted to pass.

The nightclub looked nice and was very big, but the busiest we ever saw it was a Saturday night when there were as many as ten people in there! It is very big and hopefully will get busier as the hotel does.

Towards the end of our stay the conference centre at the front of the hotel (which was the building site when we arrived) was finished and a flock of hundreds of delegates arrived. Needless to say, the service slowed down a lot, but they seemed to cope ok.

BARS
Never short of a drink. The selection is great, as is the cocktail menu. All drinks are premium brand and if you have a favourite cocktail at TGI Fridays, remember the recipe and they will make it for you. Beer is Becks, Miller, Heineken, and Efes. Sol in on the menu but wasn't stocked. Service is usually with a smile, although we did bump in to one or two grumpy ones. As for people moaning about slow service at tables, there is usually only one waiter per bar during quiet periods. Perhaps these are the reviews coming from the people too lazy to get out of their seats? We saw one or two who were moaning at everything - even some Essex kids asking for soft drinks kicking off at the bar staff for not serving them immediately - you go figure who has been writing the bad reviews!

RECEPTION OR GUEST RELATIONS?
Anything to do with the actual booking of your room, go to reception, although I found most of them to be pretty useless. Everything else, just go straight to guest relations. Not all of them can speak English, but when we came across one, she called a fluent English speaker over in seconds and our requests were dealt with. Always very friendly, smiling, and saying good morning or evening etc.

OTHER GUESTS
This is what let it down for us. Eastern Europeans and Russians were not in short supply here and it showed. All I will say is utterly "pig-ignorant", and leave it at that.

HIRE CAR
There is a sign in the foyer advertising "luxury" car hire from 5x5. I would advise booking your hire car through the Rep instead. It never felt legit at any point of the process, and while the price was slightly lower than the likes of Europcar, I'd advise you to go with them! (5x5 were €50 per day, Europcar was €55 per day). Our "luxury" car ended up being a Renault Symbol with 70,000km on the clock. Petrol is expensive and a full tank worked out at £60 in Lira which lasted us the two days (one day to Side, Manavgat and Green Canyon, second day to Perge, Antalya, and Kumluca via Altinyaka in the mountains).

Alternatively, there is a bus outside the gates at 10am which goes to Antalya and drops off near the old town. €10 p.p. return. Take Turkish Lira as well - everyone accepts Euros but you will get ripped off with the exchange rate.

LATE CHECKOUT ROOM
Checkout is at 12 midday. The coach to the airport was at 20.25. We opted for a late checkout room in advance which set us back £93 with Thomson. At 12pm on our last day we were moved out of our suite and dumped in an appalling garden room. For the love of god, if you have booked a garden room, just pay the extra for the main building rooms. Trust me.

When we got to the room, via the maze of rocky footpaths, there was no electricity. I had to flick the switches in the (exposed) circuit board which had tripped. Then reception called to dispute whether I had actually paid for the room. 10 minute trundle back to reception to argue with Mr Grumpy. The Rep had to step in and tell them that I had paid. He didn't believe her either and went off for 5 minutes. When he came back all he said was "yes you have paid". No apology or anything. Back in the garden room, we wanted a shower. Both the hot and cold taps ran scalding hot water. We complained to reception and an hour later, both taps were running cold water. In the end we gave up and checked out at 5pm, but not before the phone stopped working so we had to carry both our suitcases all the way back to the hotel (the porters use golf buggies for the garden rooms).

CONCLUSION
All in all, a very nice hotel with great facilities. The staff are "getting there" and trying very hard. The garden rooms in my opinion are not fit for purpose. The room we had was obviously not finished - even the grouting in the shower wasn't complete. The hotel was never more than half full when we were there so it's hard to tell if the personal treatment and good service (other than at reception) will continue but I hope so. My message to the hotel would be: "knock the garden rooms down and do something nice with the space (the old hotel reception building is still amongst the garden rooms, towards the golf club, literally lying in ruins). Clean the rooms properly. And don't let the rude guests from certain countries affect the spirits of the staff who do give great service and big smiles!

Room Tip: DO NOT pick a Garden Room.
