Tarbus Hotel
Ranked #8 of 13 Antakya B&B and Inns
Reviewed 15 July 2013

We came to the Hatay region for a wedding and fell in love. The location of this hotel made it easy to get around and felt so much more "authentic". It is located on a street with shops right across the street and the time spent on the veranda was restful. The rooms are very large with the main negative is the bathtub which is impossible to get in and out of if you are limited in any way. The hospitality was genuine with free water and tea all day. The breakfast was a plentiful Turkish and you could choose between sitting in their large dinning room or out on the lanai. There was even a bridal suite. The remodeling going on never interferred with our stay. Loved this hotel but beware of the tub!

We visited Antakya in June before going to Aleppo for 2 days. Visiting Archeology Museum, St. Pierre Church, Habib-i Neccar Mosque, Titus Tunnel, Old Antakya houses , Harbiye Promenade area are must in Antakya. We preferred to chose a hotel in Harbiye instead of city center which is 7 km away from city center.
Harbiye is known all over the world as the historical Daphne, in Roman times it was called Daphne ("laurel"). Mythology says it was the place where Apollon, pursuing the nymph Daphne, finally almost caught her. Gods turned her into a laurel tree to save her near the waterfall of Harbiye. To the Romans, Daphne was a place of resort for the rich and powerful of Antioch-ad-Orontes (Antakya). They built sumptuous villas here with beautiful mosaics, some of which have survived and are now on display in the Antakya Archeology Museum.
Tarbus Hotel staff is very friendly. Wireless internet is free in the lobby, water and tea are also free for customers. You can find many affordable, clean restaurants nearby the hotel and the staff will guide you if you need help.
