“great hotel”
Reviewed 30 July 2013

We booked this hotel as a base for visiting family, it was ideal as it was just across the road from their house. All the staff are friendly, they arranged the transfers from the airport for us at a reasonable price. The apartment we had was spacious 2 bedrooms, bathrooms but no cooking equipment but that didnt bother us as we ate out the time we were there. We would book and stsy here again

We stayed here for 2 weeks over our son's 9th birthday to fulfil his treat (his choice to have a mud bath in Turkey!) having never been to Turkey before we were very pleased with the "feel" of the place - extremely friendly staff and owners. It is not 5 star but it was clean, the pool was great and the food brilliant. We were self catering but the standard of the food and the great value for money made it logical to have meals in the Gunes restaurant or locally. We were very pleased with the standard and price of the meals and were sorry to have waited so long before eating in the hotel as it is as good if not better than some of the local ones. Because the hotel is some 400mtrs above sea level in the hills, the heat was more bearable than either Fetiye or Oludeniz. Quiet if you want that, but as has been said in other posts, only a short Dolmus ride to more exciting nightlife if required. All in all a great hotel for the money and as long as you don't expect the Ritz (@this price?) and treat it as a place to rest your head at night you will not go far wrong. Would definitely stay here again!!

This was our first trip to Turkey and I booked the Gunes in Ovacik by mistake! However, that turned out to be a real bonus as the location was perfect, sited a little way up in the mountains (cooler than OluDeniz or Fethiye), out of the hub-bub of Hisaronu (too noisy for us).

The Gunes is not a 5 star hotel so, remember how little you're paying, go with the right expectations and you will not be disappointed. The apartment, and indeed the whole hotel/bar/pool/etc., was clean, tidy and more than adequate for our needs. The only thing missing from our apartment was a toaster, but being toast addicts we were able to improvise ;-)

Food in the restaurant/bar was excellent and there was plenty of choice of dishes.
All the staff are super friendly and really helpful. Special mentions for Oktay, Bayram, Medine and Hannife!

When we return to Turkey, we would definitely book the Gunes again without hesitation although we'd probably go earlier or later in the year as it was too hot for us in late June.

Hi all, I have been to Hisaronu 6 times and i have to say that though this hotel was low price, it was quite poor and we don't normally moan about anything.
When we arrived we received a tiny room and not the apartment we paid for ( we had to stay in this tiny room for 5 nights). They said that night at 2am (whilst we were waitng outside for half an hour and had to change the baby nappy on the floor near reception) They did gave us a fridge( no fridges or kettles or anything in the rooms) but we also had a cot, 3 month old baby and a tiny sink, so no where to do baby bottles and was a bit of a squeeze and a nightmare. We then had to pack everything and move it to an apartment on day 6, This apartment was roomy and nice despite it being basic. The shower was an experience, you kind of never knew what you was going to get. Hot water, cold water or a little dribble. I had to crouch down and use the tap part to wash one night as it wasn't strong enough to come out of the shower head, but we got washed and got on with it. I guess we were just so happy to finally have our apartment that we didn't care by that point.
The pool was great and the food was great. On one occasion, my partner got toast with his breakfast the was 'green!' 'really green' and had to give it back ( i wish i had taken a picture of it but were not like that). The waiter was shocked it was even served and had a go at the chef. Despite having lovely food prior to that, we didn't eat there again.
It was a cheap hotel and many say it was good value, but just shop around. Also make sure your room is there for you. They said it never happened before and then we found out that nearly everyone had to move rooms. You saw them having to pack and move around which takes a number of hours. I just thought it was normal for this hotel to just give you anything they had and then if you pushed for what you paid for, you got it eventually. They did offer to help you pack and move your cases.
The family that own the hotel are lovely people, despite the issues but we are going to Hisaronu this year and are not staying there. We have found somewhere else just as cheap, same stars, in the town so no need for taxi or buses and better reviews. To be fair, i don't think it could be as bad as our experience at Gunes.

Room Tip: Just make sure you get the room you paid for and don't stop till you get it. Especially if you w...

We chose to stay in Ovacik rather than Hisaronu ( ITS A RHINO) as my mate MADD calls it.
So we chose The GUNES (which means the sun). We arrived about four in the morning ( there's a song there somewhere).Enough with the brackets already. We were greeted by the nightwatch man, shown to the room , large, decent bathroom, on the ground floor near the bar you could tell we were first timers to the hotel! That was fine if desparate jump over the balcony for an Efes!
First breakfast we were greeted by a young lady called Borjou. She as it turned out was a member of one of the two families who run the Hotel. A student soon to be an English teacher. Breakfast was the usual buffet style but they do a cracking full English at a decent price.Borjou informed us that we could get our passports back from her big brother Bayram when he came on duty, no worries, we knew where we were, 30 seconds from the nearest bus stop to either ITS A RHINO or Fethiye. The bar area was more than sufficient and it doubled as the Restaurant. There were a lot of british return visitors so the place was friendly and a fun place to be.
When we met Bayram he was only too helpful and as it turned out really over qualified to run the family Hotel.TWO degrees at university, one in Turkish tourism, not just his local area.
Everywhere we ventured people would ask as usual "where are you staying"? when we replied the Gunes they would reply "ah BAYRAM" yes we know.
We had one problem during our stay, no cold water in our room the shower was well scorchio, so we decided to report it , we went out for a couple of hours and on our return . Wait for it ... We are talking TURKEY here .. It WAS fixed, also we were told what the problem had been by Bayram, excellent service.
So the location of the Gunes is just off ATTATURK caddesi in Ovacik, close to shops, in a quiet secluded road with no traffic noise from the main road.
All in all we had a lovely stay at the Gunes, lovely hosts who were quite happy to sit and have a chat when they were not running around making sure everyone's needs were catered for.

lovely and peaceful lazing by the pool, beautiful mountain views, all the staff are very friendly and helpful, this was our second holiday here and needless to say we are going to become regulars, you have the best of both worlds, all the hustle and bustle of hisoranu, the beautiful beaches of olu deniz and the traditional fethiye all close at hand, and at the end of the day a nice quiet hotel away from the noise to get a good nights sleep, although saying that i did get waylaid most nights into the small hours at the bar, everyone who holidays here gets on with each other, will be back again in september.
