Recently got back from a 2 week stay in one of the villas located around the pool area. I have been to this hotel before, and unfortunately my experience albiet a good one, wasn't as pleasant as before on previous visits.
On arrival we were given our villa and on first glance it looks ok. However, they NEED SOME UPDATING. they look very dated. We had light sockets hanging off, lights not working, shower base was hanging off, and the plastic curved glass was cracked and had holes in it so it leaked, and looks as if had been like this for sometime. The bedside cabinet nearly gashed my arm, as it was cracked on the edge and left a pointy tip. The utensils were very poor. We were staying half board so it wasn't a real issue, but for people doing SC, its not good enough if you like to eat in.
The villas were visited each day by the maids, but on the face of it, all they seem to do was empty the bins and make the beds.I believe they mopped the floor every 2 days, but we had dirt left for over a week and they dont clean the shower/sink/bath. I know they are big villas, but we paid over £2600 for this holiday and expected better from the villas. We felt we needed to go out and buy some cleaning products, something to wash the dishes etc.we had a baby cot, and they never changed the sheets, we had to do that ourselves I do think travel agents/hotels should be forced to update photos each year and not use old generic ones. I do believe they are been refurbished next year? it shouldn't however take guest to point out obvious issues with the state of the rooms.
Food was ok as you expect, plenty of choice most nights and of decent quality.
Prices are reasonable i guess for a hotel, EFES was 8 lira, mixers were 12. kids coke however expensive at 4.50 lira for a small glass, you can buy 2.5 ltrs for 3.5 lira, so we used the room for that.
What i was disgusted by was the little shop next door. I dont know if this is owned by Orka as the same guy who does the photos works in the shop.....the last day they put the price up of a bottle of water from 0.5 to 0.75.if this is because the busy period has arrived, then that's a little naughty.
Kids club is poor, the women have little or no interest in the kids and were often caught on the phone or with there eyes shut.We hardly saw them come around the pool asking if they would like to do activities, and the only day they did. the kids came back asking for 10-20 lira to make things. This should be budgeted for and be free of charge.
entertainment was top notch, BBQ night was good, but dont expect preferential treatment if you are on HB and not paying cash. They put people from outside the hotel who pay the £15 at the front in the best seats.
Plenty of sunbeds the first week, but as people from London arrived (sorry southerners!), things started to hot up with putting towels out. We heard stories of someone putting towels out at midnight. If you didnt get up and put towels out around 7-8am ish, you had little or no chance of a getting beds. That reminds me.ORKA HOTEL get some new umbrellas, yours are shocking and dangerous.they look around 10 years old. - you have to remember the season is only a couple of months in.Pool down the bottom was ok, but for me, not cleaned enough, and definitely the pool area needs to be cleaned throughout the day as it gets messy very quickly.
Would i stop here again? maybe in a few years if and when they upgrade the place. get some better kids club staff, and update the pool area with some new equipment, put some staff on around the pool. Twice i saw accidents caused by people floundering the slide rules and going mad
Whilst its very nice it needs some money spending on the villas if they are to keep up the good reviews. I was flabbergasted they just passed the 4 star and nearly got 5! This hotel is a decent 3 star with elements of a 4 star
I had to laugh at one of the comments saying ORKA provide and own the inflatables. They dont, they are left behind be residents.
As for the area,20 min walk downhill to hisaranou where you will find lots of bars and shops, fun fair.
Prices are cheap if you look around, but the main bars charge 8 lira upwards for an efes, dearest was 10 lira for a efes and 25 for a J D and coke at the zombie bar. I saw one bar charge 6 lira. Average "decent" meal out was about 15-20 lira for a main, 6-7 for a starter.30 lira upwards for a decent steak, so good value.
Haggling for deals has gone down, most shops are not keen, deals can be made, but not like they used to. You cannot help but feel they adjust the prices to suit the exchange rate.
A visit to the salikent gorge is a must, we have been there fours times now, and its amazing.
If you self self catering, go out of ORKA, turn left and cross the road to Friar Tucks. The breakfast is amazing, home made chips, English ingredients, well worth the 17 lira. The post office bar left or ORKA does the best cocktails.
you will enjoy your stay at this hotel no doubt, but it has lost its way just a tad
