“Great holiday but.................”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 August 2011

We have just returned from a week at the Belcehan Beach and overall we have had a great holiday. We were a group of 4 adults and 2 infants (12 months and 19 months) we booked on a half board basis and it was the 2nd time we have been to Olu Deniz.

When we arrived we checked in and our bags were carried to our room by the friendly staff. We had been given 2 rooms on the third floor which meant that we had to carry prams up a flight of stairs everyday - not ideal! The best floor for anyone travelling with prams is the 2nd floor as this is street level (although you would still have to use the stairs to get to the pool). The room was fine - basic but clean and with free air conditioning, the hotel had provided travel cots which were fine. We quickly unpacked and walked over the road to the Belechan Deluxe for our evening meal (this is where you eat if you are half board). I had emailed the hotel to ensure that they were able to provide cots and high chairs for the infants but on our first evening the waiters said that they only had one high chair - my husband had to balance our daughter on his knee while she had her tea - and he tried to eat his! We found it hard to believe that the hotel would only have one high chair, the waiters said that this would be sorted. Another issue that we had during this meal were the waiters - I had been told that Turkish people love babies and I am sure that the waiters were only being friendly but they never left us alone! The restaurant was quiet so we had 4 waiters around us picking up the babies but it was too much - the babies hardly eat anything and we didn't get any peace. The food was OK but I couldn't imagine eating here every night - not with so many lovely restaurants nearby.

The following day at breakfast - still only one high chair. One of the waiters - Ironfist was at breakfast, again playing with the babies but annoying us! Breakfast was good, lovely bread! On this day we had our lunch by the pool - this was OK. What we found strange was that they produced 2 highchairs at lunchtime- they apparently had 2 highchairs between the 2 sister hotels - so why didn't they get these for us at breakfast or for our evening meal?? - was it because we were paying for our lunch and the manager was behind the bar? On the evening we went back to the Belcehan Deluxe confident that we would have 2 highchairs - but again, only one highchair! We asked 3 times for a second highchair but none of waiters went to get one. We asked Ironfist (who obviously doted over the babies) if he would get it for us - he said no! We were furious, we fed the hungry babies (one on our knee) and left to eat elsewhere. It would have taken two minutes to walk over the road to get a chair and the waiters were mostly stood around doing nothing. We complained at reception and told them that we wanted to change to B+B as we would not be eating the evening meal again. At reception they said that they would definitely have 2 high chairs for the next evening but it just felt like too little too late. They never refunded us after changing to B+B, on the night before we left we were told that they had bought 2 new high chairs - too late!

What we found amazing was the change in Ironfist at breakfast - perhaps he had been told off but he totally ignored us (how childish). What he did next was absolutely awful - he had ignored us and the babies but he came to our table and picked up our friend's baby from her high chair and carried her to the restaurant's balcony and dangled her over the edge. We were terrified, her Mum was almost in tears. We didn't lose our temper with him (we suspected that this is what he wanted) but told him that this was out of order - he said he was playing.

Despite all of this we still had a fantastic holiday. The swimming pool was lovely and felt very chilled. The manager / bar man Jeff was great, the men went with him for a Turkish shave (which they said was fantastic). We enjoyed eating out, our favourite restaurant this year was Buffalo Steak House. We went here twice and both times everyone's meal was exceptional. It wasn't cheap (and the prices had gone up half way through the week) but it was worth every penny and the portions we huge! On several evening we travelled into Hisaranu, we went to the Lemon Tree restaurant as we remembered this being so good two years ago. Standards have certainly dropped. Several groups left as they waited over 1 1/2 hours and still had no food! We were in the restaurant for over 2 hours - service was really slow and it was probably the worse meal we had all week.

Would we go back? We would certainly go back to Olu Deniz. We would go back to the hotel but certainly wouldn't stay HB.

Room Tip: Request ground or second floor if you have a pram

What a lovely hotel and friendly place. Room was spotless clean towels every day, power shower which was great, air condintioning which was in with the price which is a must for this time of year. Lovely pool and sunbeds but a word of warning be down early in peak season a family of seven had seven sunbeds and did not even use them all towels on them from early morning and it was not germans it was british. Management needs to look at this. Drink a bit pricey in hotel 3 lira for a large bottle of water 1 lira round corner. you are not allowed to bring food or drink into hotel but that was all over. Some lovely restuarants and great entertainmnet in this lovely resort and not pricey at all pt ranged from 3 lira to 6 lira. lovely people did not hassle you in shops left you to look around changed days from years ago when I was in marmaris. Fire show at end of street as you come out of the hotel to your left something else never seen anything like it dancing on the bars family all included, great place. Definetely a place to visit Olu Deniz the para gliding if you are in to it something else. Blue Lagoon beach beutiful Olu Deniz beach little stoney. Quiteness if you want it entertainment if you want it, definetely will be back By the way breakfast at hotel excellent something for everybody

We have just returned from our sixth stay with the Belcehan and what a lovely stay we had . Same great service , same great breakfast, same great welcome, however different hotel as we always stay in the Belcehan Deluxe and due to its popularity we had to settle for the Belcehan Beach and it wasnt a problem.

I have to say it was great base for a holiday , different to th deluxe as it was quieter and more chilled but also more basic with smaller rooms and less facilities. As with both of these hotels the rooms are kept impeccably by the army of cleaners on daily basis with clean towels every day. The staff are friendy and helpful and the area quiet and convienient.

Due to the size of our party 2 families with 9 of us our children and grand parents stayed at the Deluxe so we were able to use the facilities of both. The same standards of cleanliness and service is matched across the both of the hotels. I have noted a couple of reviews regarding the staff with users giving personal reviews on indivdual staff. As you tend to get treated as you treat people it is always dissapointing to read negative reviews just because you dont get on with that indivdual. I have to say Tariq at the Deluxe has had some bad press rather unfairly. We found him to be honest and straight forward as were the staff at the Beach Jeff and Ironfist the breakfast pest. The owners family work very hard across both hotels to give a great service so personal comments about Memhet are in his case correct (he is a great lad) and his sister Iin her case wrong ( she is not very moody just try to get to know her) are both unfair and not truly representative of the hard work that goes in .Over the 6 years we have stayed the level of service we have received each time we visit are always great.

Give either hotel a go and you wont be dissapointed the location is great the people are fantastic , the weather is brilliant .

Each year we say its our last visit and each year we cant wait to go back!!

Room Tip: Get an upper floor room to catch the evening breeze.

Just back this morning from a lovely week long break at the Belcehan Beach. My sister and niece had already booked for two weeks - my mum, myself and three children (11, 9 and nearly 2) decided to join them for just a week. I would not have chose this hotel from a brochure as it does not offer family rooms. One of my girls had to sleep with my mum and I had my eldest daughter and the babe in with me. However, I was so pleased with the hotel. Being in seperate rooms was not a problem as we all had rooms on the ground floor and all rooms faced each other. The older children could nip back and forth between rooms no problem at all. The rooms were very clean, the cot looked like it had been bought new for us. linen and towels looked a little dated (as was the decor) but again, very clean. Free aircon that worked very well - much needed as it's incredibly hot in Turkey at the mo. The hotel and bar area in set below ground level, hard to explain, but very safe for the children. I wouldn't let a toddler wander around but good for the older kids. Bar drinks and snacks a little pricey but that's to be expected in a hotel. Staff lovely and friendly. This was the first time I had been away without my husband and my mum without my dad and I was a little worried but the staff helped to make us feel safe and secure. Breakfast was very good - cereal, bread, toast, jam, greek yog, honey, watermelon, boiled eggs and something hot everyday, as well as tea and coffee. Pool very clean - cleaner than some of the 5 star hotels I've stayed in. Hotel well positioned, just a minutes walk from the top of bar street. If you have a buggy/wheelchair, don't struggle with the steps. The back gate is usually unlocked and that brings you straight out onto street level. Visit the "Magic Garden" for a unique firework show! Turn left out of the hotel and the bar is on the opposite side of the road on the corner. I have never seen a fire/firework show quite like this and probably never will again. The authorities were threatening to stop them from "performing" - to be honest, I really don't know if that would be a good thing or not !!! Would I go back - probably not as I don't intend to make a habit of holidaying without my husband and we would always want a family room. However, I will certainly be recommending to my friends with one child, or with smaller children that could all squeeze into one room. My mum would definately go back with my dad.

Room Tip: You absolutely have to have a room on the ground floor if you have a buggy.

Myself and my husband stayed at the Belcehan hotel for 2 weeks at the beginning of July. When we arrived at the hotel we were checked in very quickly and were shown to our room. The room was basic but everything that we needed for our holiday. Good points of the room was that the shower was very powerful just what you need to refresh yourself after a hot day in the sun and there was plenty of cupboard space for your clothes. There was also a small balcony which was an added bonus. The swimming pool was really nice and we never had any problems getting a sunbed. We were on a bed and breakfast basis so we ate at the hotel most mornings. Breakfast was basic but again everything you would need including cereal. toast, eggs, cheese, ham and watermelon. A couple of times we went out for breakfast and ate at Rainbow which was just around the corner from the hotel, the breakfast was very nice and cost 5 turkish Lira. We also ate at the Rainbow restaraunt a couple of times for our evening meal, and we would definately recommend the set menu that they have there, also the cocktails were very good and cost only 8 Turkish Lira which seemed to be a little cheaper than other places.Other good places to eat were Phillips Bar, Swallows and the Secret Garden. We didnt really have a bad meal the whole time we were there. Olu Deniz is a beautiful place, the beach and lagoon are stunning. We went on a couple of trips which we booked through 'Guide Tours' which was just around the corner from the hotel, we booked it through Mehmet who was very helpful. We paid £10 each for the 6 Island trip, we had a nice small boat and it wasnt too full which was good, some of the other boats we saw were packed up and it didnt seem that the people on them had any room to move. Where as on our boat we had plenty of room. We stopped at Butterfly Valley where you could either sit on the beach or go for a walk to look for butterfiles, we chose to do the walk which cost us 5TL each, we only saw two butterflies and we saw a small waterfall, it was ok for what we paid. We then stopped a few times near different islands where you could do snorkelling, they provide you with the snorkelling mask if you dont have one. You get a meal on the boat which was chicken with a pasta salad and some bread, the meal was good and if you have any bread left you can throw it in to the sea where you will attract lots of fish. The second trip we did was the Dalyan trip which we paid £18 each. This was a great day, it was lovely cruising on the boat and was good fun seeing the turtles and visiting the mud baths. We also got a very good buffet meal included in the price. The only thing you had to pay for were your drinks. We also tried blue crab on the trip which we would recommend. We have been to Turkey several times but have always stayed in the Bodrum area, I think we prefered Olu Deniz as you dont get any hassle from the owners of the shops hassling you to buy something. We were able to browse without being bothered which was great, and the standard of the restaraunts were fantastic for what you pay.Overall we had a great time and would recommend the Belcehan Beach Hotel, the staff were helpful and friendly and we had no complaints.
