“Very relaxing, beware the dungeon room!!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 September 2009

Stayed for 1 week in the karbel hotel, was well aware of the dangers of the dungeon room, but as it is a large hotel didnt think we would actually get put in one. Got there at 6am only to find that our room (521 I think) was indeed a dungeon room!!! Tiny window right at the top, two small seperate single beds and no room for anything! Very upsetting as we were so tired too from our journey. Went straight to reception who said they couldnt do anything til 9am when the manager came on duty so we had to sleep there for 3hours before getting up and going to complain to the manager. He instantly moved us to a lovely big room with a balcony, a huge double bed and air con that actually worked! Dont know why we couldnt have had this room 3 hours earlier but hey, we got it in the end. The original guy on reception said he could move us to Hotel Karbel Sun instead but we put our foot down and said that we had chosen and paid for Hotel Karbel and did not want to move to Karbel Sun. So dont be afraid to throw a small tantrum if you dont like youre room!!

The rest of the week was lovely and relaxing, some of the shows were really good although the buffet deals looked like a bit of a rip off, we ate out at other restaurants with more variety every night instead and just came back to watch the shows after. The pools were nice but got quite crowded, esp the big one- we only managed to get sun beds there for one day only.

The location of the hotel is really good as its on the main street but not too close to all the noise. The only noise we got was the 'call to prayer' at about 4am every morning, not very loud but loud enough to wake me up!!!

Overall, a nice hotel, with friendly staff.

Hotel was I suppose quite nice, staff were very good , rooms very basic but clean, beds very hard woke up with backache most mornings.Nowhere to store clothes as no proper drawers got a bit fed up living out of cases.
The hotel is situated on the main strip which is very noisey at night, music until about 3.00am, so don"t go here if you want to rest or chill out.
Ouldenize is too english too many bars with big T.V"s showing football, football, football, they seen to think thats all we think of .

So - today returned from wonderful holiday in Oludeniz. Visited Oludeniz 21.8.-1.9.

Lets get the negatives first - there is only one we experienced - the room! You have to be really lucky, we were not. Our room was 112, was not the dungeon, but has a lot "mistakes". There were problems in the bath - broken toilet, broken shower doors. Also problem with electricity - went down each day about two or three times (for a moment but disturbing - air condition had to be switched on new). The bed was horrible and the last two days I couldnt sleep on it at all (was creaking each time you moved a bit). The phone was ringing the first day maybe seven times (one ring and thats all), so I decided to switch it off fully. The view was into the door of another room, so no + for this.

So these were the negatives - everything else was excelent! The staff very helpful, the food excelent (breakfast was repeatitible, but OK), dinners were very delicious. We stayed halfboard, so for 11 nights dinner in Karbel and no one day when we could complain. Only thing is, that in these 11 nights I never got a turkish coffee. We asked many times, but never suceeded.

Location is very good, 10 minutes to beach, OK! Can not describe more - never been to the pool and used the internal bar for coffee time.

All in all we can only recommend this hotel, but you have to be lucky with the room.

the hotel was very good .staff excelent maid service couldnt faulter.meals very good both at the pool bar and hotel.scenery was brilliant.rooms basic but very clean, with mini fridge.tv,air con which was needed because weather was very hot in the 90s /100s.wach out for mosquitoes the bite people with o or b blood groups,i am coverd in them.if want cooler weather do not go in aug.go in may or october.only thing was we had an early morning flight home 5-45am so had to pay extra for room till 8-00pm the night before.we paid for 10nights b&b but had to be out of the room for 11-00am when you have already paid for 10 nites you should not have to pay again you should have the room till they collect you .but that happens in all hotels.

We booked this hotel as it offered bed and breakfast as opposed to the all in clusive of the Belcekiz beach hotel where we have stayed for the past three years. The location was at the top of the strip of shops as we have come to know it and it was a nice place to be. the staff at this hotel are brilliant but as a three star hotel they do not invest in any entertainment after the intial acts brought in, so for example on a Wednesday evening they have a barbque night followed by a belly dancer and break dancers, when this was over there was not even a disco for us all to fill this wonderful dance space around the pool. The towels in our room wherre only changed once during our stay of one week but i guess that is reflected by the 3 star rating. The al a carte restaurant was an absolute joy and if you ate here for three nights you actually could eat here for a further night for free.I have to say I did miss the Belcekiz but this is a nice family hotel to stay in if you do not mind the very basic breakfast and extremely small balconeys and very very small showers myself and husband are not tall or wide but we found it hard to stop banging our elbows on the screen Book this if on a budget and enjoy but i would reccomend the Belcekiz beach hotel eveyrtime

We emailed the hotel requesting a high floor rooms and did not get the basement rooms as some people have mentioned.
One drawback for teenagers is the third bed is a sofa bed that does not pull out. It is quite cramped but my son managed. The actual hotel though is very nice and clean. Towels are not changed every day, but mostly this did not affect us.
We stayed half board and it is well worth it. Tasty soups, large salad bar, hot food section and desserts. All was nicely cooked and served. The service from all staff is very good.
Took a travel kettle and there is a small fridge which is handy to keep the milk, squash, water etc.
Pools are very clean and lots of floats provided which adults enjoyed as much as the children. Mostly the pools are deep (or seemed to be for anyone 5ft 4 and under) in most parts and I think this is why so many floats are provided, so maybe a concern for children that cannot swim or children tht prefer to have plenty of standing room whilst they swim or play ball etc.
Plenty of sunbeds and even in August usually found at least 3 together.
The local beach is very nice, but you definitely need water shoes as it is shingle into the sea!
The Sugar Beach - which is about 10 minute walk around the bend from the main beach is sandy and you can swim in the lagoon without the need for water shoes. Much safer swimming for young children. The sunbeds are the best here to, covered with a clean sheet every day.Something I noticed on the "paid for" part of the lagoon - the beds were all plastic!! Which meant they were boiling hot. And you still had to pay for these sunbeds/parasols too!! The beach was all shingle so the need for water shoes. I really believe it is not worth paying to go on this part of the lagoon. The main beach at the bottom of the strip is just as nice as this and Sugar Beach on the other side of the lagoon is completely free to use. You just pay for the sunbeds and parasols as usual. And at the end of the day a courtesy bus takes you back to your hotel! Happy hour is also on Sugar Beach from 3pm-7pm when coctkails are down from 15TL to 10TL!
We booked a Jeep Safari through First Choice our tour operators. They book the company "Evergreen". It was a fun day. Quite tiring. And be prepared to get dusty, dirty, and very wet. Also the meal is included, but drinks are not and you are charged for all your soft drinks on the trip - which is a whole day out from 8.15 a.m. to 5.30pm. Personally I think drinks with the meal and on the first stop should have been included and you don't find this out until you have drunk them at the first stop!!
You can purchase a DVD, which we did, for 25TL and it is a good video of the day - which is recorded by a guy on one of the jeeps on the whole trip.
The Buffalo Bar just down from the Karbel Hotel is the best! We did not like the hotel bar.
There you are served by Ozay and Shabeen. Very friendly. Also a wonky pool table for the kids! And big screen playing a whole range of old and new stuff.
2 very good markets - Fethiye and Hironisu - Monday and Tuesday. Plenty of bargains to be had. General tip go for half the first asking price! I bought a leather purse that originally started out at 60TL for 30TL! It was a very good price and very good leather. Second tip - only have small amount of notes in purse - hide the rest and you can really bargain - pleading poverty lol!
Take some imodium with you as all the fresh food and salads, and ice in drinks do set the bowels in motion on several occasions!!
Also take jungle spray and insect bite cream. If you do get bitten and are allergic you need something to rub in and also take plasters to cover. Having said that 2 very good chemists are on the "strip" and I bought their own brand of insect repellant when mine ran out and creams which were very good for the couple of bites I had.
Also take water with you for the transfer to hotel as it is a good 2 hours.
Cash machines are good. Use the banks not "ATM" machines. There is one just outside the hotel and several others dotted around.
Beanbags to sit on at night on the sands are very nice though you don't want to get one near a speaker playing the music as it can be quite loud!
Would recommend this hotel for eveyone. We will return another time. Some things we did not do this time - paragliding. Looks lots of fun!

We stayed at the Karbel Hotel for our honeymoon. The staff really looked after us once they knew we were newly married. We had a selection of photographs taken by Fred the hotel photographer and they compared really well to our wedding album and are a lovely compliment and perfect reminder of what a fantastic time we had. There were a lot of children around but they didn't present a problem and as my husband is a teacher, we have to take our holidays out of term time so we always travel in the holidays and encounter lots of children anyway. We stayed half board and despite there being some strange offerings for breakfast (omelette and chips one morning), overall the food was good and plentiful, the goulash was especially delicious. The hotel and grounds were spotlessly clean and the evening brought a sweet aroma from all the beautiful shrubs dotted about the complex. The staff were lovely and we found all of the Turkish people we came into contact with to be welcoming and helpful. We are both well travelled, my husband in particular who has spent 12 years in the RAF and has seen most of the world and we vowed never to visit the same place twice.......until now. We have already booked to return next year, We have also recommended this hotel to several other couples who have enjoyed the holiday as much as we did. The beach which is a 10 minute walk away is idyllic, there are plenty of trips to enjoy,i'd recommend the mud baths, said to make you look 10years younger, I don't know about that but your skin feels fantastic afterwards and the effect lasts for several weeks, great for the cellulite girls. It was a very good value holiday, give it a try.....you won't be dissapointed.
