We went for a weekend at the Barracuda resort using the cobone deal. I thought if cobone is selling this deal, the resort should be good. But surprisingly, it was not up to the mark. We went there in Feb end and the swimming pool was toooooo cold. It is not temperature controlled pool. And also the jaccuzi was there but the motor was not working, so it was used like a kids pool !!.

I think they should remove Beach word from their name as the Beach is of no use. It is smelly and black.

There was no proper play area for the kids also.

Only upside of the resort is that it had good food.

Not recommended for non-drinking families....

Room Tip: Choose pool side view.....

We stayed in this resort in Feb 2012, we had taken our swim suits along but couldn't enter the swimming pool cos the water was still too cold in mid afternoon. though the rent is high for a small city like Umm al Qwuain, we got a good half price deal through cobone.

We booked a Deluxe suite, and were pleasantly surprised by the size of the room. not only it was spacious and well furnished with a slim TV, big cabinets, a small refrigerator and a big table and sofa but also an extra bed.

The back side of the suite opened to a tiled area which further led to the swimming pool and had a great view of the sea. and very big area in the back to barbeque also.

I would recommend it to big groups with children. as there is not much for entertainment. though i enjoyed the dinner as well as breakfast buffet. the variety was good from different types of cuisines.

Room Tip: dont go for the chalets as they are away from the pool, the suites are better.

We stayed at the hotel in October, 2011, in one of the single bedroom cottages. The bedroom was big, by UAE standards, so was the sitting area, which had a dining table and kitchen counter as well. We had rented the cottage for a barbeque with friends. The cottage had a shaded tiled area just outside the sitting area, and the area extending towards the beach had a patch of green grass, so the kids could play there. There were one and a half bathrooms, convenient for families. The facilties in the room were very basic, but value for money. There was a small fridge with freezer, so we could store the stuff for the barbeque. The wardrobe and the chest of drawers also came in handy.
Go to the resort only if want to have a low cost get together with friends, it doesnt have too many facilties for a relaxing holiday.

Pity I only read the reviews above a few days before we went to Barracuda - most of which I agree with. The place is very tired, 27 years old and looked like nothing has been replaced since.
The setting could be nice but if you want food you have to sit in an icy cold air conditioned building with smokers when the temperature was perfect for al fresco dining.
Seems to be the place for arabs to drink in the evening/all night? while their wives and children play in the pool.
We had a 2 bedroom apartment which I wrongly presumed would have a kitchen. Only had a fridge and a kettle which said 'not working' on it, although it did work.
Breakfast was brought to your room which was cold by then. Coffee was sachets of nescafe powder with rainbow milk - gross.
The bonuses are Dreamland next door and the Barracuda bottle shop which has the best and cheapest range we've seen in the UAE.
All in all a bizarre place, would not recommend for a family holiday, maybe if you just wanted to use it as a base for a few days. We made the best of it though and spent our days in resorts in Ras al Khaimah (cost AED 200 for day) and Dreamland, Iceworld Aquapark.
We asked for internet as their website said our rooms would have it so they did move us to a room and had a technician set up a connection (don't think they'd had it in awhile)

This place looks like at one time it was a good little resort but now it is falling apart. For example - it is called a "beach resort" and yet it has no beach! The beach that is shown in the website's photos was never a natural beach and without maintenance it has long since washed away. What is left is a smelly green swamp with concrete walls and the sea is fenced off. The music and nightclub scene has long gone due to new laws in the Umm al Quwain Emirate and this leaves very little to do in this place. The only upside is it has a bar that sells cheap drinks. Food is a rip-off though, very expensive and usually involves frozen food heated up. And yet its quite busy with local people who perhaps still like the fact you can drink alcohol here. We could not understand why the bar was busy except for this reason. Maybe some people remember the place being good. For us its looks destined to die. Oh and the security guard that wanders around is one weird guy. We found him one morning standing on our ground floor balcony and instead of walking away when we caught him, he started peering in to watch what we were doing. Staring at women is wrong in any country but especially in Arab countries! To us that was outrageous! If the owners do not spend some cash on this place soon, it will self destruct. You have been warned...

the website of this hotel is a far cry from reality..
in place of the lovely azure beaches in the website photos, we were absolutely shocked to find a browny green smelly swamp that is cordoned off about a meter's width for the whole length of the beach!! no one is allowed near it as its unsafe..
the rooms are spacious but that's because they have nothing in them! we had to ask for a TV and a water heater among other things.. we also found a nice fat lizard crawling up the wall from where we had our bags :S
we felt very unsafe staying for the night, as its like a ground-floor cabin style chalet, with both balcony door and front door not closing properly, and stray dogs roaming about outside, scratching at the doors..
all this is nothing compared to the misrable breakfast we had the next day. no open buffet and the options on th ala carte menu are waaaaayyyy below average,, the food leaves you unable to swallow, so it worked fine in keeping us "full" till lunch which we sure as hell had outside the hotel!
the only good thing about barracuda is that it's close to the dreamland aquapark,, and even then ppl shouldn't bother to go there coz the aquapark has its own accomodation that's far superior to the 4 stars that barracuda so unabashedly claims! what a farce!

Barracuda Beach Resort is about 30 kilometers from Ras Al Khaimah, towards the North and about 28 kilometers from Ajman towards the South. Lagoon Side but no beach facilities. lagoon-side pool, Jacuzzi and paddle pool are available. Indian and Arabic nightclubs, Offerings traditional live music - open until the early hours of the morning. Beachside cabanas with barbecue area are worth of trying
