“Good surprise”
Reviewed 5 March 2014 via mobile

We were at BA during the carnival and not many restaurants were open. We came accross Green Bamboo at a BA guide. The negative reviews at Trip Advisor were too strong so that we were expecting not much. We got an incredible atmosphere in a well decorated room, the food was fantastic, we ordered two entrees (the one with 7 pieces was awesome) and got de chicken curry and meet in cubes. Both were great. It was a good way to try something different in BA other than barbecue!

“Expensive, inauthentic and bland”
Reviewed 23 November 2013

What we tried: salmon tartare, Saigon nems, clay-pot white salmon (CA KHO TO), chicken curry (CÀRI GÀ), locomotion (cocktail), one non-alcoholic cocktail and two "vietnamese" coffees.

Overall we were underwhelmed in terms of the flavour: the tartare was average (served with wasabi sauce-so not in any way typically Vietnamese or South-East Asian), the nems, again, average and the main courses were both bland and uninteresting. The cocktails were the same- quite watery and artifical tasting. The ingredients just don't seem to be very good quality and the kitchen doesn't seem to know what they are doing with them in any case unfortunately...

The prices are high. Service is average and the atmosphere/decor is trendy and a tad pretentious. Not recommended unless you want boring, pricey food.

“Not Viet Food”
Reviewed 5 November 2013 via mobile

The rating of poor I'm giving is based on the food, and primarily because it was not Vietnamese. Many of the ingredients were there, but the way they were used did not translate into anything resembling Vietnamese cuisine.

The Bun Cha we ordered was 'deconstructed' consisting of separate piles of herbs (Sweet Basil, not Thai Basil), and rice noodles on a plate with skewers of pork (dry & over-cooked) and pork patties, and lastly a bowl of marinade (sauce?). No peanuts which makes a big difference for flavor & texture. The only fish sauce I could find was in the decanter they provided separately. The dish did not come together and did not taste Vietnamese.

The broth of the Pho we ordered had no flavor. There's really nothing else to say.

I suppose a telling sign was that it took almost an hour for us to get our order when both these dishes traditionally made would only take a few minutes to be ready since the Pho broth would already be made.

Service and ambience were both decent but you go out primarily for the food, and the food was disappointing.

“Nice place - average food”
Reviewed 22 October 2013

Buenos Aires Asian restaurants are not the best you could find in the world. Green bamboo is not an exception. The place is nice and the service is also very good but, I'm afraid, the food is just average.

“Great atmosphere - amazing cocktails”
Reviewed 20 October 2013

I really enjoyed dinner and drinks in Green Bamboo - it made such a refreshing change from the usual Buenos Aires cusine and restaruants. Very relaxed atmosphere, we sat on cushions on the floor at a low table and enjoyed cocktails (purple geisha definitley recommend trying this!), we shared a starter, main course and desert and my taste buds were buzzing at all the different flavours. The chocolate mousse with guava is to die for!! It is a little overpriced - we weren't madly hungry so we shared 3 courses and had 2 cocktails eachand this came to just over $500 pesos) Also the service is a bit indifferent which lessons the otherwise lovely atmosphere of the place.
