Great setting. The turn of the century decore is great, and the sauces are better than usual for BsAs.

“On a par with Wetherspoons??”
Reviewed 27 November 2013

Had a 'look - see' in here late afternoon, with a plan to return later that evening.
50% of the clientele appeared to be on a par with those who frequent Wetherspoons at 11:00h on a Tuesday morning.
Realise that won't mean much to folks outside of the UK - not sure if this is an accurate translation - barfiles / hobbos / ??
Also - no Havana Club - only Bacardi - that's a bad sign (cheap and cheaper)
Based on first impressions, didn't go back for a drink.

“Great Lomo Sandwich.”
Reviewed 6 November 2013

So there we were, wandering around San Telmo one afternoon talking about having a lomo sandwich and we came across El Federal. We went in on a whim and found a very local pub type environment. It was like out of a movie with the original heavy wood bar and furnishings. True to our word, we had the lomo sandwich and it was tender, flavorful and LARGE. A word of caution here is that if you are not big eaters one sandwich will easily feed two. This is a wonderful place with lots of local charm that should not be missed.

“historic cafe”
Reviewed 17 October 2013

If you´re down in San Telmo neighborhood this is a nice cafe to stop in for a coffee or beer. We stayed just up the street and visited a few times. The architecture is wonderful and a real local experience.

“A BIT OF HISTORY”
Reviewed 17 July 2013 via mobile

This bar is one of the oldest in Buenos Aires and has charm, it looks a bit dated but that's the whole point; IT IS OLD.
They do their own baking so you can enjoy breads and medias lunas (croissants) plus a lot of other dishes such as Spanish tortilla. They the most delicious picadas, like enormous tapas with all sorts of cold meats and cheeses.
I've been there a few times and always enjoyed a good meal. A treat if you're in San Telmo and fancy a bit of history.
