Terrazas Estoril
Reviewed 22 December 2012

When on long backpacking trips, the hostels you stay at end up contributing just as much to your experiences as the sights you see. Terrazas Estoril is one of those gems of a hostel. Stayed here (the 6th floor Estoril) for the month of June 2012 and returned in September. This is a friendly, cozy place. It is not a party hostel (a Milhouse is a few doors down if you want that) but the rooftop patio and bar is a good place to share a few drinks with other travelers before heading out for one of those Buenos Aires nights (drinks were a bit pricey and they could use some better wine). The 6th floor is better value (rate-wise) than Hostel Estoril on the first floor and has more natural lighting. And starring out at the city lights at night from that rooftop patio when you first arrive is a pre-courser to falling in love with BA, lol. Compared to larger, more impersonal hostels, it is very easy to meet other travelers here. Clean, wonderful staff, lovely restored heritage building and great breakfast. Beware when you first arrive - the shared building lobby and outside sidewalk seemed to be targets for the "mustard scam" while I was there - google it, at watch our for scammers at Retiro bus station too.

My friend and i really loved this hostel! It's strikes an amazing balance between sociable and relaxing! A great place to meet people and to chill out and watch a film when your tired! The staff couldn't have been more friendly or helpful! I can't recommend this hostel enough!

Stayed there for a couple of days while visiting BA. Very friendly staff, clean hostel, good breakfast! And located right in the city center, very close to the Congress Palace. From terrace you have a very beautiful view to Avda de Mayo. Not very much space in the room, but it doesnt matter if you spend most of the time in the city and not in the hostel. In the hostel there's a "living room" with couches and the big TV, in the next room are 2 computers for common use (what was not enough sometime). Once a week they also organize a bbq where for 60 pesos you can eat as much as you want, the food is good there
In general - great place!

Estoril is a 5 star hostel with character. It is conveniently located in the city center and it's very close to the metro. It is a large hostel spread over four floors, yet it still has a small, cosy feel to it. The place is clean, roomy, nicely decorated and very colourful. There is a TV room, and the WIFI works very well.

I stayed at the 6 bed female dorm. The beds were comfortable enough and it was quiet, although bring earplugs if you are staying at the top floor in BBQ nights. The rooms were way too small for 6 beds and there is barely any space in the room to put your bags. Small lockers are available in the room but you need your own padlock. If you don't have it, there is a luggage store next door that sells them. The bathrooms aren't communal which was a delight.

Breakfast consists of basics like toast, jam, tea, coffee and croissants. The free BBQ was delicious and the hostel staff were very helpful with planning my stay. I really liked this place and I would stay there again.

The place is nice, right in the middle of the city, has got an awesome terrace that you can chill out on. It is very cheap and convenient to get to the city sites and is in a safe neighborhood
The negatives: the rooms are a bit cramped, 6 people is one too many for the rooms.
