America del Sur Hostel
Certificate of Excellence

America Del Sur was my first experience of hostel life in Buenos Aires, and this hostel was a great place to start. Private room was clean and had added bonus of safe and hairdryer. It's in a great location (make sure to check out the bar opposite with the red door!) and staff were really friendly and helpful.
Had a good mix of people there when I stayed which was nice.

Very pleasant hostel with fantastic staff and plenty on offer. Free tours of some parts of the city. Very well located in Buenos Aires. The double rooms give onto a relatively noisy street but they are OK at night. Easy access by public transport. Good breakfast included. Good value for money

San Telmo is a nice area to stay in, with affordable little eateries (they might look like cheap pizza places from the outside, but a lot of them have good wine and steak for ridiculously low prices) and more of a neighborhood-vibe. And of course there's the big market on Sundays.

The hostel's reception staff was super nice and very helpful. There were always enough people to accommodate everyone's questions. :)
The breakfast was typical for South America (mostly white bread and a whole lot of sugary things), BUT within these limits it was a lot more plentiful than breakfast at most of the other hostels I've stayed in (yogurt, cereals, different types of cake... haha) and they have a conveniently located kitchen to supplement your breakfast with ingredients bought inexpensively from the small vegetable/fruit shops around San Telmo. :)

I totally recommend that hostel, it's the most modern and the cleanest one on my trip to South America.

Everything, the common area, the breakfast, rooms and walking tours organized by hostel were great.

Also, the staff they have - these are some great people who told us a lot about the area, the neighborhoods, Argentina in general, the hostel and were super helpful with everything.

Unfortunately, it was also place with the worst roommates we had on our trip, but you never know who will be sharing the dorm with you...

There's no doubt that this is one of the cleanest and most modern hostels I have ever stayed in. The staff were also super friendly and very helpful. The location was also great and a really easy walk to the centre of San Telmo. however, I wasn't a fan of the design of the dorms. They were small, which was fine as that was what I was expecting but If all 4 people were there during the day it would be very cramped. The bathroom set up was very unusual and as the room was so small you could hear everything which I always find a little uncomfortable. Also, if you wanted some privacy to get changed you had to do this in the toilet as everywhere in the shower room would get wet. As others have mentioned it's not got a very sociable atmosphere, for solo travellers in particular. This may be because the "chill out" area is separate from the eating area and patio. Either way it wasn't conducive to meeting people and whilst I was there (sat-tues) there weren't any hostel activities organised to help you get to meet people.

I stayed in the 4 bed dorm, it was very comfortable, good beds, lockers and hot showers. Was pretty quiet at night.

Spacious common areas, wifi was a little patchy, kitchen could use a few more cooking implements. Apart from that recommended for a for a couple of nights to conserve some energy before hitting the town.

Seems more focused to people travelling in groups so if you are a solo traveller I would recommend one of the busier 'party' hostels like Art Factory or Milhouse

A clean, tidy, modern hostel with defend size private rooms with private bathroom.

The common areas are clean and spacious giving a really good feel.

The staff are the biggest asset and can't do enough for you, all incredibly friendly and help full.

Trips and events are organised so if you want to party you will find out great ways here, however the hostel itself doesn't have wild late nights so if you are after a decent sleep that is catered for as well.

One downside was intermittent WiFi in the room though it was good in common areas.

A bit more expensive but in my view worth it.
