Great location on Avenida de Mayo, this hotel has a lot of character. Its old and run down, but in a good way. The room was comfortable with a queen bed and balcony and plenty of hot water. The breakfast isnt really breakfast, its toast and OJ, so be prepared. The staff is very helpful and friendly. My favorite part is the old architecture inside the hotel. I will definitely be back.

This hotel is in a really good location in buenos aires . Close to restaurant and theater. You can enjoy a really good international breakfast here too. The hotel rooms are old . Bug these are really quiet even the rooms the have balconies . It is a good balance between price and quality .

Very good value and location, just steps away from the Lima Subway stop on Avenida de Mayo. If you want to stay where the locals do rather than at a hostel, this is a great place. Faded but very elegant. Wireless can be spotty, but we were able to access it most of the time. Our bed was very comfortable in our first room (room 101), but not so much in the triple we moved to when our son joined us (room 102). Common areas are elegant and inviting. Staff (especially Flor) are helpful and welcoming. Room is cleaned daily. We paid just 320 pesos for a double with nice bathroom & good hot water. There is a lot of street noise, but that's the trade-off for being right in the middle of everything in a convenient spot.

Room Tip: Wireless works in rooms 101 and 102. Other rooms are spotty (it works in common areas). Lie down o...

I came here on two separate occasions, the first time in 2011 and the last one in January 2014.
Hotel Reina is recommended by Lonely Planet and it's easy to see why: the building is simply beautiful: quite big and very central, with tall ceilings and late 1800's decor, making for much more a unique experience than some anonymous big hotel chain. Some rooms have a balcony overlooking 9 de Julio avenue, the most central avenue, from where in 2011 I saw the celebrations for the reelection of Cristina Kirchner. A truly authentic South American experience. Take that, Merriot.
Clearly, an old building has some inconveniences, such as a lift which bone-crushing acceleration, no wifi but in the lobby, a/c limited to some rooms, doors which don't lock well and creaking floors. In that respect the situation has gotten worse from 2011 (even the lift has been downgraded from 5 people to 3 people at a time!), clearly demonstrating that the hotel is in dire need of some maintenance.
Cleanliness could also be a notch better.
Breakfast is not continental, but traditional Argentinian and served in a gorgeous dining room with windows facing 9 de Julio. Facturas and medialunas are really fresh and tasty and they even have mate for guests to enjoy.
Price is very good for the experience and location, if one is willing to overlook the maintenance issues (we're talking 35-40$ a night for a room with double bed and a/c).
The hotel doesn't take credit cards, but accepts dollars and euros.

Room Tip: Rooms with a/c are on the top floor, but no chance to get wifi signal from there. Ask for a room fa...

The building is very beautiful, the rooms are very large, have high ceilings and a balcony that goes out to Avenida 9 de Julio. The breakfast buffet offers a lot and the staff is very helpful and friendly.
We stayed there a few times during our visit to Argentina and felt at home. The only weak point is, that the free WIFI does not work in the rooms and in the lobby it's very unstable.

A great old classic building on Avenida de Mayo 1120, at the corner of Avenida 9 de Julio, very near the Obelisco . Antique furniture that gives the hotel a special charm.

Location: conveniently & strategically located, near two underground lines: A (station: Lima) and B (Station: Avenida de Mayo). Near many bus stops. Restaurants, pizzerias and bars nearby. Some of Buenos Aires’ major tourist attractions (the Pink House, Café Tortoni, Florida Street, the National Congress, the Metropolitan Cathedral, Palacio Paz, and many others) are within walking distance from the hotel.

Rooms: there are standard, especial and superior rooms. The former have only ceiling fan whereas the others have air conditioning. Some rooms overlook Avenida de Mayo while others are on Avenida 9 de Julio, both very important avenues in Buenos Aires. Ceilings are very high since it is an old building. Clean. Excellent views on Avenida de Mayo. Bathrooms are not so good. Some are extremely small. Not very comfy. Some remodeling & improvements (of the building)needed.

Staff: great! Telma and the other ladies are great!

Breakfast: indescribably good! A huge & generous buffet including many different types of breads, pastries, cereal, fruits, eggs, ham and cheese.

Free Wi Fi, but only on the first floor, in a restricted area.

Possibility of half stay. 24 hour reception. A working historical lift!

I have stayed at this hotel many times. They have always kept the reservation, made via e-mail.

Great value for money! HIGLLY recommended for people who are on a shoestring, looking for good location & an excellent breakfast!

IMPORTANT NOTE: the hotel address in Tripadvisor is not right. The exact address is Avenida de Mayo 1120, as it can be checked on the hotel website www.hotelreina.com.ar
