“A dirty hotel.”
Reviewed 18 February 2006

I just spent one night at this Sheraton Hotel. It is one of the dirtiest (upscale) hotels I have ever stayed in. The hotel does not appear to have been renovated since it was built (probably the mid-1970's)and it shows. The rooms have dilapidated bathrooms, the room carpets are filthy, and the room walls are smudged with dirt, and patches are used to fix holes. The wallpaper in the halls is ripped and the carpet shows its wear. The breakfast, even if included in the price is not worth paying for. The hotel is a tour group destination. If it wasn't a Shearton it would close within month. When I complained to the staff, they all agreed that the hotel's condition is unsatisfactory but did not offer to discount my rate. Stay someplace else!

Stayed here for two nights in early January. The location for tourists is excellent. A few steps away from the main pedestrianised area. The hotel needs a good coat of paint and the rooms are a bit shabby, but the beds are incredibly comfortable and despite our room overlooking the main street it was very quiet. Would definitely recommend this for its location alone. We stayed at the Sheraton Buenos Aires Hotel and Conference Center on the same trip and would rate the Liberator better than this for location. I expect it's also cheaper although we were staying as a package so don't know the room rate. A word of warning - there are at least three Sheraton hotels in BA and twice our taxi driver took us to the wrong Sheraton despite us telling them quite clearly which one we were staying at. This led to the price being about double what it should have been - we doubt it was a coincidence that it happened twice.

Reviewed 14 January 2006

Stayed here between 27th December 2005 and 2nd January 2006.

Location was great.

Had a room on the 6th floor, front facing overlooking Cordoba Street. Room was very quiet - didn't notice the traffic. Very comfortable, large bed.

The staff were very pleasant and helpful.

Generally, very happy with the hotel and would stay here again, but the hotel did have the following problems: -

1. We stayed there for New Years Eve. We went down to the bar at about 8pm for a drink, only to be told that the bar was closed and would remain closed all evening! I could not believe that an International Hotel chain could close the bar on a night of celebration. It is not as if they did not have the staff - in fact the bar man remained behind the bar all night just to inform the guests that the bar was closed!

2. Tried to use the internet in the bedroom through the tv and the provided infra-red keyboard. Did not work, so checked the keyboard's batteries - battery compartment was empty. Then obtained some batteries, which still did not work. Gave up!

3. The lift is probably the most pathetic hotel lift I have ever experienced. Example - waited ten minutes for the lift to arrive at the 6th floor. When it did arrive, the lift was completely packed, so I did not get in, but waited for another lift (the hotel has two). When the second lift arrived, this was also packed, but I squeezed in somehow. I pressed for ground floor, because it appeared that evryone in the lift was going to the 3rd floor for breakfast. Lift stopped at 3rd floor, everyone except me got out. Five new people got into the lift and pressed for the 10th floor. The lift then went up to the 10th floor, completely ignoring my request for ground level. After these people got out at the 10th, the lift then stopeed at floor 8, and then the 6th floor again - back where I started! This wasn't a one-off occurence, but frequent!

We stayed in a room facing the street and there was virtually no noise at all (something I've never experienced in BA), a beautiful view of the river and great central AC. I'd stay here again if I could get a deal on the rate. Very central location too.
