“Great Location, Nice Pool, Excellent Customer Service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 September 2013

Stayed here for 8 nights in February. We had the unfortunate happen with our overnight flight being cancelled (only one per day where we were traveling from) and when we asked to push our reservation back a night (even though we were within the cancellation window where they could have charged us) they had no problem accommodating the change, not charging us, and making space for us for an extra night at the end of our stay.

The rooms were spacious and clean, had lots of outlets for plugging in our various devices/blow drying our hair, lots of storage space, and a secure safe. WiFi was free, which was nice so that we could write emails home a bit. Room had great a/c which was awesome since it was February and hot as could be. There was a great breakfast, included, that was served downstairs in the morning. Coffee, pastries, eggs, meat, the works. The biggest perk was the pool and courtyard out back. You don't expect to find this in such an urban location but it was awesome. So great to have a nice respite from the heat.

The staff was wonderfully helpful. They made dinner reservations for us on multiple occasions, helped us navigate the bus system, and helped us navigate getting to/from the stadium for a futbol game.

The location was very central, and right around the corner from the Subway. We were able to walk and subway to most cases, but even when things were further afield/we were feeling lazy the cost of cabs is much less than what we are used to so it wasn't hard to swing.

Room Tip: Ask for a pool facing room. It is quieter than those facing the street.

We stayed at this hotel for 7 nights, so we got to know the staff quite well.
The best thing about the hotel was the location. The view is nothing to write home about as it was just of a street with dirty old buildings and other hotels, but we weren't there for the view.
We were there in March, so the weather wasn't really hot enough for spending a day by the pool but the few times we did try go up to the pool, but door was locked, so never really got to see the outside pool area but I can imagine in summer, it must be very popular.

We were very dissapointed that the bar and restaurant had closed down as it's often good to have a few drinks and dinner in your own hotel so you don't have to worry about getting back. We did have one dinner at the hotel (in the lobby/breakfast) area, and it was superb. We actually found it was the best value meal we had, and delicious and huge portions.

For a 4 star hotel, we found the breakfasts a bit boring. There was no choice of hot breakfast, except for one warm container that changed each day, ie roasted potatoes the one day, fried ham the next, tomatoes the next etc, and there was always scrambled eggs, but that was it and being there for 7 days, the "warm dishes" started repeating themselves, but hey the breakfasts were always filling enough and gave us plenty fuel for all the walking that we did around BA city.

The strangest thing was that in the standard rooms there were no kettles or coffee/tea making facilities. One day we felt like having cheese and crackers in our room and we really struggled just to get a plate and knife from the kitchen staff. My husband went down a second time and found another staff member who had no problem with giving him a plate. I don't think I have ever stayed in a 3-4 star hotel with no kettle in the room.

We asked for a double room as we are a married couple, travelling with no kids, but we got twin beds, this may have been the booking agents fault so we did not complain or ask to be moved.
The rooms are spacious and the bathrooms seems to have had a recent revamp as they were more modern than the rooms and furniture.

Overall we had a lovely stay.

Room Tip: I would think the rooms at the back of the hotel are quieter, but even though we had a street facing...

Stayed 3 nights, although a room in the front of the hotel, we were not affected by any noise. Very happy with the breakfast menu, plenty to choose from. Location excellent. The staff were very efficient and helpful in booking tours. Tip for soccer fans, hotel were happy to arrange a trip to a soccer match which was fantastic (river vs Velex). Excellent Steak Restaurant recommended by staff La Chacra 5 mins walk from hotel.

Room Tip: Laundry service excellent.

The hotel itself it's not a 4* property, as advertised, but instead an upper 3*. It has nice, ample rooms and it's one of the few hotels in BA that has double (not queen) beds in the double bedrooms. Most hotels offer queen beds, which I frankly find a little small for quality sleep. This was a HUGE plus for me. The breakfast was below 4* average, some selection of breads, jam, milk, yogurt, scrambled eggs. I would have liked a little more variety. The only reason I'm nicking one star is because of the bedding and curtains in my room, which were a little run down and had a dusty smell, and I couldn't sleep well because of it, otherwise this would be a solid 4. My mum's room was fine, though, so maybe it was just bad luck.

Now, the staff was simply excellent, one of the best I've encountered in a hotel (and I've been in many!). They don't have a concierge, but the reception staff literally helps you to EVERYTHING you might want, from restaurants recs, to shows, to tours, to safety tips. I can't say enough praise for them. Even though the hotel itself had the aforementioned details, I wouldn't hesitate to go back!

Asked for a quiet room as the next day we had a 13 hour trip back to the UK. We were given Room 501 and it turned out it was next to the lift and all night long all we could hear was the warning sound for the lift doors opening. At around 6am it seemed every other room adjacent to our room had an early check out. This was followed by doors slamming and the guests holding noisy conversations outside our room whilst waiting the lift. Just as we were about to get back to sleep the room service maid arrived to be given instructions constantly on her walkie talkie as she serviced each of the rooms.

The hotel is very dated but very clean. It is easy walking distance to shops and restaurants. Beware we asked the hotel reception to call us a cab to avoid picking up a rouge cab off the street. We were told the fare would be approximately $30, pesos, but on arrival at our destination we were charged $65, pesos. Needless to say the driver we flagged down on our return charged us $25, pesos.

The hotel website, reflects a time when this hotel had not lost it's sparkle.
Having said that I would find it difficult to seriously criticize any particular aspect, based on the the price paid. Following TA recommendations we asked for a room at the rear and got it, with a fine view overlooking the swimming pool; our travelling friends, however, got a room looking at 4 blank walls. Luck of the draw. The breakfast was ok, but for me the coffee was undrinkable.
Our room was large with 2 queen beds and a fair sized bathroom and safe. We travel with a small kettle so were able to make our own coffee.
We found the staff very courteous, efficient and helpful in advising on local restaurants.
A big problem for all visitors to the area at present is the vast amount of street works that are ongoing in BA at the moment. Even large parts of Florida Street, the famous pedestrian shopping area are being ripped up and shoppers ears are continuously assaulted by mechanical diggers and screeching discs cutting through paving slabs, creating clouds of dust. Not a pleasant experience.
Our hotel rooms were not affected by noise, however.
As with most things you tend to get what you pay for, this hotel was ok for the money but we probably wouldn't use it again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the rear to avoid street noise.

Stayed 2 nights Feb. 7 & 8 on first time trip to Buenos Aires. Took bus into city from EZE and walked to hotel from station. Hotel is in great location for walking everywhere. Staff are all friendly and helpful, the pool was refreshing after exploring the city. Wear good shoes because sidewalks are in disrepair. Our room was on 3rd floor street side, noise wasn't bad but I'd recommend asking for a room away from street. Breakfast was excellent with lots of selections.
