“One of the most beautiful Cathedrals in the city”
Reviewed 26 January 2014

Over the years I have visited this Cathedral on many occassions. It is close to Plaza de Mayo and Casa Rosada in the micro centro. The architecture and design is beautiful and if you have some time, admire the inside of the church. Here you will find the mausoleum of General Jose de San Martin. There is a memorial inside the church for Jewish victims of WWII behind the altar. Definitely recommended when in Buenos Aires.

“The light for Argentina never goes out”
Reviewed 20 January 2014 via mobile

A lamp shines outside for the eternal life of the country. And inside is an incredible statesmanly tribute to General Jose Martin draped dramatically in the blue and white flag and guarded by two smartly turned out guards with guns. Freedom under protection.

“Surprises Lie Inside”
Reviewed 31 December 2013

Surprise number 1 is the mausoleum of General Jose de San Martin, the hero of Argentine independence from Spain. It's to the right of the nave. Surprise number 2 is a memorial dedicated to Argentina's large Jewish community. It contains documents found in the death camps of Auschwitz, the ruins of Berlin’s synagogue and the remains of this city’s Jewish community center, which was bombed in 1994 by Iran's Hezbollah. Rather remarkable that this memorial is inside Argentina's national cathedral.

“The bland exterior hides the treasure inside”
Reviewed 27 December 2013

On the same square, Plaza de Mayo, as Casa Rosda the Catedral Meropolitana offers a great opportunity for a quick, accessible visit to an important chruch in Argentina. And it is free.

The Cathedral has an impressive altar and also houses the tomb of General San Martin - He led Argentina in a battle for independence against the Spanish Empire.

It's a busy church and there are many serivices going on here.

“The tomb”
Reviewed 15 December 2013 via mobile

Stunning interior and it also contains the tomb of Gen San Martin that is guarded by two permanent soldiers. A very historic building. Not such a good looking building from the outside though. Well worth a visit.
