“It´s not the place but the history.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 September 2012

As Recoleta Cemetery holds the majority of the past president´s and wealthy families, in Chacarita Cemetery, you will be able to gather some of the story of the imigration in Argentina. It is divided by regions of the world, and you can easily differentiate them by the different surnames. Very interesting.

It is enormous, gray, sad, smells like dead flowers.

“The other Buenos Aires cemetary”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 March 2012

I would rate this higher except it's creepy being amongst the dead. Seriously, if there were some explanation to the cemetery it would be a better draw. It is overwhelming the amount of money that goes into making the marble casket houses that fill this place. If you are absolutely at a loss for things to do in BA this is worth taking the B subway out and checking out for a bit. No time - go to recoleta and take a tour.

“Wow”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 February 2012

Nobody is going to try and convince you that this cemetery is better than the Recoleta Cemetery, but it is AMAZING. The story behind the start of this cemetery is very interesting and the pure size of it is just astonishing, after you get past the graves on the street, you have to check out the, for lack of a better words, library of graves. I believe it is worth seeing if you have some extra time to spare.

“Cemetary for the regular folks”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 August 2010

I went to this cemetary hoping to see the tomb of Juan Peron. Bummer! Juan was moved out a year or so ago. I did, however see the tomb of Carlos Gardel (cool), although finding anything here is like being amouse in a maze. No signage, no signposts, nothing. Go prepared to wander aimlessly. That said, I am glad I went as this cemetary offered a nice contrast to the Recoleta Cemetary. While it still had grandiose memorials to the departed, it also had more mundane tombs - including some creepy indoor vaults. More rundown and more for the common man, the cemetary is nonetheless an interesting way to look at Argentine culture and I appreciated being able to compare it to Recoleta (which was an absolute must-see). Interesting, but with limited time I would only visit Recoleta cemetary.
