Perfectly placed for the tourist - wham in the middle of a walkway in downtown BA - surrounded by people, shops and restaurants. The hotel is non descript but fine! The rooms are small, bit noisy and ours was way too hot. No air con and no thru flow of fresh air. Breakfast was delicious. You need to speak the language - even basically - to get by in BA. Watch out for pick pocketing in the busy streets!

We stayed 3 nights, room ok but small, likely we traveled light small bags.
The elevator was "scary" and small, they need to fix it. Breakfast ok
Staff ok didn't do more or less just what they had to do.

This hotel was great! We were on a tight budget but the location was a great value for the price we paid! We were right in the heart of all the action! The rooms were clean and the lobby and breakfast area were nice. Keep in mind this is not the Ritz but very accommodating for a young couple or family.

My wife and I stayed at the Grand King Hotel from November 17-22, 2008. We did a prepaid reservation via aa.com.

The hotel was in a spendid location for shopping! It is just a few feet away from the corner of Florida & Lavalle on Lavalle. Both streets are closed to public traffic and are a shopper's heaven! The beautiful Puerto Madero is just a nice 15 minute walk away too.

Having read the reviews here on Tripadvisor for the Grand King Hotel; I decided to ask for an upgrade to a superior room from the basic one that we booked. We were told the difference was about $125.00 for the 5 nights we were staying and that the difference in the rooms was the rooms to be renovated were at the standard rates, but the size was the same. The newer rooms also had a key card vs a room key entry. Yes, this is an older hotel and it is not fancy on the outside, but if you are planning a getaway all you need is a clean room to sleep in and a place to freshen-up. For the price it is a great deal.

Our room was clean, we had a safe for our valuables and we also had plenty of towels and the shampoos, lotions and soaps that many of the standard hotels offer.

The staff was very helpful to us. I read other reviews here where there were staff problems and I suspect it might be a language barrier. English is not widely spoken in Argentina and knowing some basics in Spanish before you go is very helpful. Both my wife and I speak Spanish and had no problems at all.

Our flight to the USA didn't leave until 11:45 PM that night and we had 12 hours and didn't want to carry our luggage around. The hotel offered a free checking service for our bags so we could go about our business until our remesis picked us up that evening to take us to the airport. We were also able to change dollars for pesos.

The buffet was good, but not fantastic. It was a cold buffet, no hot food was served except that there were toasters to toast bread. The buffet had breads, meats and cheeses, fruit, cereal plus coffee, tea and juice. There was plenty to fill you up!

  • Liked — The location, it is a comfortable place to stay for a reasonable price.
  • Disliked — Small elevators, the view.

We stayed at the Grand King Hotel for six nights. The location is great, close to Calle Florida and the mall. However the hotel is badly in need of a renovation. It looks old. There are only two elevators which hold four people, so good luck if you live on a lower floor and you want to go to breakfast. The elevators also do not have a sensor, so they will close even if you are getting on. The rooms and hallway carpet need to be renovated. The rooms are small and the floor was always dusty. We could barely fit in our baby crib and stroller.

The front desk staff are the most UNHELPFUL I have ever encountered. This is the only hotel where I have been where the front desk staff would not help me to book a taxi to the airport (I speak no Spanish) and they suggested that I call the reservations line myself because they spoke English. I did, and turns out they really did only speak Spanish. Only then, did he reluctantly call on my behalf.

Also this is the only hotel where the front desk would not help me to mail a postcard as I was leaving. Instead, he told me I could mail it myself by going around the corner. Now yes, it was not far, but that was not the issue, it was the principle of it. This was a refusal of a simple transaction, thank goodness we didn't need to change rooms , have our rooms recleaned or get directions.

There seemed to be lot at the breakfast buffet but open closer examination it was the same items over and over again. Only cold items such as fruit, juice, bread, croissants etc)

Overall, the stay was satisfactory. If not for the location, this hotel would not be worth staying at.

We selected this hotel because Escapes.ca, whit whom we often do business with satisfaction, offered it as a special deal. They should take it off their list.
Personnel was not friendly, even rude at times.
We occupied three different rooms and all three were very dirty. Beds were clean but of very poor quality.
No air conditioner in any of the three rooms we occupied. Breakfast was fair but dining room and utensils were dirty, even the toaster had dirt over it.
Deserves no more than two stars by any standards.
Well located.
