Buenos Artes Hostel
Reviewed 29 July 2013

We stayed in a private room (share bathroom) and grew to love the place. There isn't a whole lot happening at the hostel until late evening when more people hang out in the common area. There's a small outdoor patio attached to this area and a rooftop terrace for smokers.

The room was basic and clean, with nice art. Wifi did not reach our room but worked well in the common area. There's was a window to the outside of the room that we couldn't open, unfortunately. The 3 shared bathrooms get used heavily and could do with being cleaned more regularly. The showers had hot water with sufficient (but not great) water pressure.

Breakfast is bread or toast with jam/dulce de leche and a hot drink. They will let you make your own toast if you ask - advisable. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The hostel is full of art and has heaps of potential. I would suggest they replace the harsh common room lighting with lamps or more artistic types of lights to improve the ambience of that area. There wasn't a lot happening on the rooftop during our stay but it's winter after all. It's easy to meet other travellers during the late evening and there's bars, cafes, clubs shops and restaurants within walking distance.

Overall a good stay and we met a wide range of people.

Room Tip: Bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper, especially on the weekend.

The hostel is really close to all the cool bars and lovely cafe-culture of Palermo; the prices are really affordable and there is a big lounge area so you can meet other travellers, play ping pong and watch tv. there is a cute little patio area for a morning coffee, and a roof terrace- they do great asados (bbqs) on the roof in the summer! Breakfast is quite simple- bread and jam/dulce de leche, like most hostels in buenos aires- and they have a kitchen so you can make your own meals. The staff are wonderful- Juli (the owner's sister) is a gem- full of useful city information and an artist! Love this place- the atmosphere is pretty relaxed and really easy to meet new people.
