“Best Staff By Far!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 June 2014

This hotel is a wonderful retreat a midst the bustling city of Buenos Aries. We stayed for over a week in May 2014. Guillermo and all of the staff were so accommodating and sincerely friendly. The suite we stayed in felt like a little home away from home. We highly recommend adding the breakfast to your stay, it was nice to sit and enjoy the wonderful buffet of meats, cheeses, croissants, etc. while looking out to the beautiful pool area. If you are looking to relax in the evening with a nice glass of wine go downstairs and talk to Fernando! We are looking forward to going back next year to see all of our friends at the 1828 Smart Hotel!!!

Thanks, Mark & Lynnette Morosky

This hotel strikes you the moment you enter the heavy wooden door. At first I was a little nervous because there's no way to tell what you are walking into until the front desk allows you in. Then you have this kind of "Oh My" moment where you look around but you still can't really take it all in because you're busy going through the check in and trying to pay attention to what the front desk person is telling you.
Eventually you get to look around and realize that this place is a gem. The decor is art deco meets sleek and modern. Black and white laminates and impeccable style. Thats just the lobby.
I stayed in room 304 which is one of the smaller rooms facing the street. The room, like the lobby, is sleek modern and gleaming clean. It has nice touches like electric drapes which you can open and close by a switch hidden behind a panel next to bed. (You may have to ask for help locating the switch. I did) I had to ask the housekeeper how to operate them. The bed has adjustable led reading lights on flexible goosenecks on each side. I have seen these in one other hotel and they are great.
There are an endless combination of lighting options with hidden ceiling lights, back lit louvered panels etc. All are controlled by wall switches that are accessible at the entry or next to the bed.
If I had to complain about anything it would be the glass panel tv (Which is really cool by the way) but the remote didn't have enough signal strength to change to channels from more than a couple feet away. The result is that if you are watching from bed you have to lean all the way to the foot of the bed in order to change channels.(Kind of makes channel surfing a pain in the butt) but really no big deal.
The long and short is that this hotel is probably the most technologically advanced that I have ever experienced. I 'am not used to high tech so I found it very fun just to be in the room and play with it all.
On top of all that the hotel surpassed all the normal things that people judge a hotel by. Cleanliness, quietness, staff, (very helpful and friendly). The bed was so darn comfortable that I really didn't want to get out of it, which if you are a tourist and have a long list of things to see is not a good thing:-)
The location is in the heart of the Palermo District of B.A. and in my small opinion, if you are staying in the downtown area get out as quick as you can and head straight to Palermo. This hotel in particular is on a relatively quiet (For a big city) tree lined street. Never once was I nervous about coming and going at night. That, and the electronically secure front door go along way toward making one feel safe.
My last comment about the hotel is the breakfast buffet that is served in the am.Everything was presented in a beautiful fashion.I felt like I was at a high priced catered event. Even if the food was not good, which it was, it was still gorgeous to look at. They really do a nice job with it.

We stayed on two consecutive week-ends in March 2014. As we arrived late at night, the first time we saw the area we became a bit concerned, also the Hotel has a wooden front which impedes revealing what's behind it. Upon ringing the bell, a small porthole-like window was opened by a staff member who checked who we where. We were immediately wowed as we entered the hotel. Luxurious decor mixed with modern touches, impressive white baby grand piano under a crystal chandelier filled the small lobby. Everything is designed in a way that allows the flow of one area into the next without sacrificing great style. The bar, a few tables for dining and a sitting area with a large TV screen all are "smartly" combined. A glass sliding door leads to the inner courtyard greatly decorated with a wall of water that flows into a flat rectangular pool. Tables and chairs around the pool are used as an extension of the restaurant or for sunbathing. Walls are covered with greenery.
The first weekend we stayed in the penthouse suite with private Jacuzzi on a large balcony. The bathroom was impeccable and roomy and the room was spacious. Again the black and white decor was impressive and luxurious. A cashmere throw and robes awaited us on the king size bed. Excellent mattress, pillows and covers.
On the second weekend we took a smaller room but nonetheless equally comfortable, luxurious and impressive. The bathroom was somewhat small.
Breakfast offers a lot of choices and it is set up elegantly on the bar. The staff is always willing to assist you with special requests.
Dinner served by Fernando is perfectly presented with attention to detail. The menu is a bit limited but we found our meals to be delicious and not expensive at all.
All the staff -Mercedes, Mauro, Fernando, Raul and others were absolutely fantastic!! Nice, friendly, accommodating, and just fabulous, they even managed to find super glue for my broken fingernail!!
If you don't need to be in the noisy and busy area of downtown or in the business section of the city, this hotel is the perfect choice. The area is quiet but still offers several restaurants in walking distance.
We highly recommend staying here and can't wait to return to it!!
Mario & Cristina (Miami)
PS: while in Buenos Aires don't miss the opportunity to experience "il Positano" restaurant where you can enjoy live opera singing while dining. reservations highly recommended.

Room Tip: The view from suite 402 was not great (apartment buildings and roofs) but very quiet which we prefer...

We stayed a week in the Smart hotel during March 2014. Our room was luxurious & spacious on the top floor with our own jacuzzi bath on our own balcony. Think there are only two of these type of rooms in the hotel, so we were lucky. It was heaven. Also made use of the sauna and small gym in the hotel basement. The hotel staff was friendly & helpful and we have zero complaints. We didn't eat in the hotel as we wanted the experience the Buenos Aires street cafes & restaurants. Thank you Smart hotel!

Room Tip: Ask for the top floor's rooms.

We stayed at the Smart Hotel for one night at the end of our Honeymoon trip to Buenos Aires. We wanted to splurge a little bit, and we were impressed with the reviews and the uniqueness of the hotel. We took advantage of the "Unforgettable Night" special (check the website) which included a champagne platter (emphasis on platter! It came with a beautiful combination of fruit, several different nuts and a great bottle of champagne), two 30 minute massages (we scheduled them back to back, since there is only one masseuse, and a free delicious breakfast that we chose to have delivered to the room. We also chose to upgrade to a suite, which I would highly recommend. Our room had a spacious balcony with a built-in outdoor jacuzzi which was great to sit out on at night and during the day. We chose to have room service for dinner and it was one of our best meals in town and comparably priced to most good restaurants in town.

We had a very good experience, but some of the communication was confusing ahead of our stay. It wasn't clear that the room upgrade (listed as part of the Unforgettable Night package) was an additional US$50. Also, I was picturing a couples massage as part of the package, but we ended up having to schedule them back to back for 30 minutes (an hour massage is extra). These were totally fine and worth it, but still worth noting. I can see why some other guests might have had frustrations in this area.

The pool was very pretty to look at, but we didn't have much interest in swimming this time of year. The cashmere throw on the bed was soooooo soft, and the robes were extremely comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay and compared to renting an apartment for the previous part of our trip, we loved feeling pampered and completely taken care of at the Smart Hotel. I would highly recommend it, it is a very unique hotel that is hard to forget.

Room Tip: Top floor suites are beautiful and unforgettable with the spacious balconies.

My husband and I just finished a wonderful stay at 1828 Smart Hotel. The location was very convenient and the area was very quiet at night-- something that can be tough to find in parts of busy Palermo. The rooms were bigger than I expected and well appointed. The property was well kept up and very clean and stylish. Most of all, the service was outstanding. Everyone was very helpful. Mercedes spent a lot of time with us, answering questions, making suggestions and sharing her enthusiasm about what was available in Buenos Aires. The owners should know what wonderful front desk staff they have--- they are key to the hotel's success!

My husband and I had high expectations on our stay in this Smart Hotel as the online photos and the reviews in Trip Advisor were outstanding. When we arrived at the hotel, we noticed none of the facilities were working such as the Foot Spa, Massage Room and Pool. Unfortunately, we missed our first night at this hotel as our flights were postponed to the next day. Therefore, we asked the hotel if there was any way to sort this out as they do not provide reimbursement to clients at all. The first response was that there was nothing they could do for us in this regard. This response was enough to make our stay very bitter in BA. Of course, the hotel crew noticed the bad taste caused and they tried to make it up by offering 2 breakfasts for us. This offering is not even half of the value of 1 evening at this hotel. At the end, I forgot a prayer's book at the restaurant and emailed the hotel asking if they could send us by regular mail and the answer was no. After my husband wrote a review in Trip Advisor, then one of the managers sent an email to him apologizing and asking the directions to send the book. In sum, our stay at this place was very disappointing. This is an overpriced hotel, customer service is very poor and the online advertisement is false. Watch Out!
