This 2-bedroom apartment has a fabulous location in the heart of Palermo Soho. It is rented directly by Gustavo, the owner. Gustavo pleasantly responded whenever we had a question or request and was a pleasure to deal with throughout our month-long stay.
Restaurants and shops are all around. The center of restaurant, bar and night life is located just 3 blocks one way, and Plaza Italia, the zoo, Japanese Gardens, and Botanical Gardens 6 blocks in the opposite direction. Plenty of taxis in the neighborhood all the time. Subway and buses to everywhere at Plaza Italia. Nice Sunday market 4 blocks away. Adequate "supermarket" 1/2 block away (on J. Borges), much larger supermarket 4 block walk (on Calle Paraguay).
We are two adults 60+ and two boys in their early 20's. We stayed one month for Christmas and New Year holidays, 2013/2014. Our stay was comfortable. The beds all were clean and quite comfortable. Two new air conditioners were quiet and operated flawlessly. Since we came from winter with temperatures often around 0, there was some adjustment needed to B.A.'s +33 and higher temperatures most days, so a.c. was important to us. This apartment was comfortable even on the hottest day. We used the fan in the second bedroom to keep it cool, the a.c. units are in the main bedroom and in the living (common) room.
The hot water was "on-demand", so always available and limitless for every ones' morning showers. Weekly cleaning service was included. TV had hundreds of DirectTV satellite channels. We used WiFi with our laptops, phones, and tablets for streaming, VoIP phone calls and other Internet stuff, and this worked well even with multiple devices streaming etc. at the same time. Could connect wired Ethernet cable into router located in bedroom, but WiFi worked just as well so never needed it. (Gustavo is IT person, maybe why worked better than expected with our multiple devices.)
We had no safety fears when walking the streets, even late at night. We were absent 2-3 days several times for side trips and had no worries about the safety of our belongings in the apartment.
Local phone with number was provided, which was a big help because AT&T wouldn't unlock our cell handsets to permit use of readily-available local chips for local calls. (This is a problem unique to cellphones from U.S. providers, those in other countries do not lock their handsets. For U.S., most providers will unlock your handset ONLY if beyond 2-year contract period, so save an old cellphone and have carrier unlock it BEFORE your trip and make sure your handset is "GSM" -- all handsets from AT&T & T-Mobile will work; those from Verizon DO NOT. Your GSM handset will work with U.S. chip, but it is VERY costly, like +$1./min. for local call.)
The ultimate recommendation is that we would stay here again if we return.
